Lord Noctis
Harbinger of Darkness

It occurs to me that we really are in need of a solid dueling thread here. I know some of us enjoy playing Yu-gi-oh, so this is the place where we can pit our skills against each other to see who deserves to be titled the King of Games!
So lets get down to buisness.
The Basics
Lets just go through a quick refresher on the basic rules. I won't go into anything complex here, just the absolute basics one needs to play. Newcomers can use this information for getting started if they choose, and old players can quickly refresh themselves.
The Deck
This is fairly obvious. Your deck is what you use to play the game. Unlike games like poker Yu-gi-oh has hundreds, perhaps thousands of unqiue cards, and an unlimited different ways of combining them to create a deck suiting your playstyle. A deck requires at least forty cards to be considered complete, although there is no upper-limit on how many cards you may have. Just remember, the more cards you have the harder it is to raw the rght card at the right time.
Monsters and you
Monster cards will likely form the backbone of your deck. Each monster has an attack score, and a defense score. Monsters can be played either in attack mode, or defense mode. Both players can have up to five monsters on the feild at a time. However, only one monster may be normal summoned per turn.
When in attack mode monsters can attack your enemies monsters, or if their side of the field is empty, attack their life-poins directly. In this mode you monsters attack points will be used to calculate the success or failure of your battles. When two monsters in attack mode clash, the one with the lower score is destroyed, and the difference in attack points is subtracted from the losers lifepoints.
In defense mode the monster cannot attack, and its defense score will be used to to determine wheter it survives battles or not. If your defense monster is destroyed you will not lose life-points unless your opponents card has an effect stating otherwise. On the other hand if your attack monster clashes with a defense monstter, but has less attack points than the enemies defense points, the difference will be subtracted from your life points.
Some monsters have specific effects that can change th game in your fvor. In general these monsters effects can overwrite the usual rules of engagement.
Ritual monsters are powerful creatures that can only be summoned by using their corresponding ritual spell card.
Each monter also has a star value based on its power. Monsters with a star rating of 1-4 may be summoned freely during your turn. Monsters with 5-6 require the sacrifice of one of your monsters on the field. 7-8 requires two tributes. 9 or higher requires three tributes.
Fusion deck
Your fusion deck contains your fusion monsters, and should be kept seperate from your deck. Fusion monsters can normally only be summoned by fusing two or more specific monsters together. This may be achieved by using cards whose specific effect is to fuse monsters together.
Spell Cards
Spell cards are cards which can be used for a number of effects. Altering the attack and defense scores of monsters on the field, destroying an enemies monsters, makin git easier to summon stronger monsters.
Trap Cards
Trap cards can be placed face down on the playing field. Their effecs have just as wide a range as spell cards, but are generally activated in response to your opponnts actions.
Playing the game
The game is played in turns. These turns are played in phases.
The drawing phase is first. During this phase the player draws a card.
Main phase 1 comes next. During this pahse you may play spell cards, set trap cards, and summons monsters.
Battle phase. In this phase you may direct your monsters to attack.
Main phase 2. This pahse is generally a repeat of main phase 1, though you may not summon addtional monsters in this phase if you already summoned a monster in main phase 1.
Life Points
Each player begins with 8000 lifepoints. The goal of the game is to eliminate your opponents life points. The first player to reach 0 life points loses.
These rules are the bare basics of what you need to know to play. However, there are many more rules not covered here. If you are a newcomer I would suggest acquiring a rule-book, orsimply researching the rules online.
Format
Duels in this thread should be conducted in the following format.
The Duel will be played like so, at the start of a turn every player posts something like this giving everyone the states of their field,
LP ( Life points) Hand ( cards in your hand M zone ( Monster zone) M/T Zone ( Magic and Trap Zone) Graveyard.
So, If it were my turn it would go like this,
LP: 3900 Hand 3 M Zone 1 FD( Face down monster) M/T zone 1 Grave Red eyes black dragon, Luster Dragon etc. ( You have to put the monsters but you can shorten the names, for example Red Eyes Black Dragon could become R B Dragon or even RBD.)
At the end of your move, post it again with the updated version of the statistics, this is way its easier just to copy and paste and add in the new details as you go.
Challenges
Feel free to challenge any member who also plays the game. Please try to schedule your duel at a time when you will both be online, so that the duel may be completed in one session. This way others will not have to wait to begin their own duels. Remember not to take things to seriously, and have fun. Some trash-talking and bragging and the like is acceptable dueling behaviour, however, being genuinely rude orunpleasant is not ok.
IMPORTANT WARNING
Be wary of strangers who challenge you. They may be evil spirits who wish to initiate a shadow game to steal your soul!
To close things off, before any challenges are issued it would be useful to know who all has their own deck and intends to play. If you would be kind enough to post your willingness to accept challenges in this thread that would be great.
Lastly I look forward to many great duels! Its tim to D-d-d-d-Duel!
