Nobuo Uematsu - Bran Bal, the Soulless Village
should need no introduction,
Peste Noire - Phalènes et pestilence - Salvatrice averse
One of a number of "orthodox black metal" bands that have emerged over the years, France's Peste Noire, comprised of practicing Satanists, is devoted to deriving beauty out of filth. Correspondingly, the first minute and a half of this track are not black metal at all, but are quickly juxtaposed with what can hardly be described as anything else. Throughout this song's twelve-minute running time a number of themes are explored which, upon close examination, ultimately reveal that the apparently dissimilar intro and body of the piece are inextricably related in origin. A fantastic track all around; the acoustic parts are particularly well executed.
