Late reply...I liked most of your post, but your suggestion that we "had no idea what Lucrecia looked like" is a bit ridiculous, as it would also imply that we had no idea what the main cast of FF7 looked like before there were expansions. We knew what they looked like, and occasionally, that ends up being quite different than their appearances in later games, rather than just a more simplistic version of it. Just because it's more graphically simple doesn't mean it's literally a non image. They totally tarted her up in later versions. Let's get some screenshot comparisons!
edit: also, I love Hojo. That's one strange thing I notice about FF7 fans for all their awesome attention to details, other than people wanting to bang Sephiroth for his bishounenosity, not much love for the villains. I mean, they're terrible people, but there's some great evil bastards. Hojo's among them, and is the Zack to Sephiroth's Cloud, if ya know what I mean. I also saw him as one of those "obsessed with science as God" types...in other words, not moral or immoral, but viewing morality as irrelevant...if it's an obstacle to progress and experimentation, discard it, if not, let it be.
Double edit: Another great 2-second villain, that I wish was developed and in the game more: Dyne.
