Only admins can use the "Default Skin." If people want I can set it so regular users can use it though, but the graphics will look like shit due to anti-aliasing.

As far as how much we can modify the appearance of the skins - pretty much everything can be changed, but I'm not going to bother doing layout changes. I'm not really going to put much effort into making new skins either, but if someone wants to come up with graphics for another one, I can send them the graphics we're currently using so they can do whatever they feel necessary towards creating another one.

If by graphics we're using you mean like the quote, thanks, new post, etc. buttons, the glowing white materia and non-glowing white materia, etc., yeah, sure, send them to me. I wasn't going to go that far but a recolor wouldn't hurt.

Question— If I cba to make some different colored themes, what can be changed in a theme? Is the green/black gradient background image there to stay? What about the actual forum colors (post background, post borders, default font colors, etc.)? I've been secretly toying with a purple and black theme to Donate To The Cause after someone expressed the desire for one recently, but I gotta know what can actually be changed.

As far as I can recall, all of the skin changes - minus the ones where the columns of the sections and posts were altered - are all done in CSS, including the background image. The header was either done with vB's setting or in the HTML itself, but I think it was the former. All of the colors can be changed to whichever you want. In fact, you can change the colors of the colors themselves if you want to - i.e. if someone says 'font color=black', you can say in CSS that black = #FFFFFF, i.e. white.

And yeah, the images would all need to be updated and such. I could assemble a package with a vB installation and a portable webserver and whatnot so you can use all that to develop a vB skin locally, if requested, or setup a 'test' board on the server.

... I offered to make skins a while ago... I was told it was spam and that you guys didn't want to clog up the webspace with different skins. But since it seems you're more open to it now, I'm still willing to make different colors if anyone is interested.
