Who exactly were the real parents of Genesis?

Either. Or both.

It's actually one of CC's logic gaps -- he was right there in the Mako reactor at Nibelheim where JENOVA was being housed, yet he didn't take any of her cells.

The only possible way to explain Genesis' stupidity then is that he didn't take JENOVA's cells then because he had wanted Sephiroth's cooperation as part of some recreation/fulfillment of Loveless.

Or :monster: He'd already gotten Jenova cells and tried them and they didn't do what he and Hollander had expected. He was already at the Reactor and knew about her existence, after all.

EDIT: Also, I love the idea of Genesis being Gast or Ifalna's son. Given that the CC Complete Guide seems to put Ifalna in Midgar prior to Gast's "escape" from Shin-Ra (says she escaped with him), it could easily be written that Genesis was her son biologically.

It would be sketchy to pull off. I have two theories :monster:

** Ifalna consented to having Gillian's genes injected into Genesis early in the pregnancy and was a willing participant in the whole Jenova project. This is unlikely since it's shown in the original FF7 that she knew full well what Jenova was. A possible circumvention would be that ShinRa didn't tell her all the details on Jenova.

** Or, ShinRa had her against her will and released her when Genesis was deemed a failure. This... opens up a lot of ugly doors, such as how Ifalna got pregnant with Genesis in the first place. So I'm not sure Sqex would touch something like this one. :monster:

Both of these kinda hit a brick wall with "ShinRa already had a real Ancient, and still wanted to go through with the Jenova project?!"

But I suppose she could have hidden that fact from them.

This whole idea feels so fanficcish, yet so appealing :monster:

And that too, of course. :awesome:

That's a good conclusion, as Genesis is then clearly after Sephiroth's cells, which have a perfect human/Jenova integration. Thus supposedly curing or replacing his own cells that are poorly integrated with Jenova.

Yeah, kinda like what I said. Maybe she could've hidden that fact, and ShinRa could have been convinced that Jenova was an Ancient and those crazy scientists were just itching to do what crazy scientists do. :monster: So therefore, they could've hidden the information about Jenova from her or forced her into it. Icky.

:awesome: Oh I know right? I'm quite glad people accepted the theory though. IT'S AWESOME.

I think the identity of Genesis's parents is bound to be an interesting plot twist, whatever it is, even if it ain't Ifalna and Gast's =P.

She said, "You're going to Midgar to join the army!"

(which wouldn't make sense if she was scared. :P

He whistled for a cab and when it came near, it license plate said 'fresh' and it had a dice in a mirror. If anything, he thought the cab was rare so he didn't bother and just instructed the driver to take him to Midgar. He arrived at shin-Ra around 7 or 8 pm and yelled to the cabbie y0 homes smell ya later.

whatever comes up in their compilation project. Hopefully it will revolve more on Genesis, and preferably after DoC. I don't know if at this point if Genesis will be the Big Bad or The Rival to the main FFVII cast.

As interesting as this all is, something tells me that Square won't pursue any of this.

Well, logic would say they should [as Sephy and Angeal have had their parents explained], especially if he has a 'unique' factor to his cells. But knowing Square, they'll probably just forget about it. Which would really, truly annoy the heck out of me. :monster:

Well, I'm just about sick of reading fan fictions that always leave Genesis as the villain - don't they understand that he's changed now? The entire reason he sealed himself away was for the planet's protection [and no, having Genesis wanting to eliminate humans because they threaten the planet is an overdone story plot [I mean, that was what DoC was like, actually] and I believe that having him do that is just stupid]. He regained his pride as a SOLDIER [which, apparently, symbolises Angeal's will] and it was his wish to also filful his duty as a SOLDIER, which is presumably working towards the good of the world [probably also what Angeal would have worked for in SOLDIER himself]. Genesis wouldn't disgrace himself further, unless he was seriously messed up and couldn't really be saved. Besides, in that scene in Banora after his fight with Zack, watching his facial expressions and hearing the emotion in his voice when he talks to Zack [particularly Japanese voice acting] clearly shows what deep regret and remorse he had. And then he denied involvement with the schemes of Deepground.

And please know none of this is directed at you :awesome: I was just having a rant. Just something that's been bugging me lately. But yeah, I hope Square takes the path either a rival or something more heroic, but not him as the main antagonist again. >__>

I don't think Sqex would make Genesis a villain. Even if they made him an antagonist, it would be a hell of a lot more complicated than that. Sqex made it clear that he's not that cut-and-dry with Crisis Core.

As for fanfics doing that, well, that's something else entirely :monster:

Well, no it was FF7's plot. Dirge's plot was just Hojo being insane. But yes, I agree they shouldn't do that again.
But while I agree that they are most likely not setting Genesis up as the Big Bad, I don't think they're exactly setting up as a good guy either. He seems to lend himself more to the "bad guy with good intentions" archetype or, as someone here suggested before - and more interesting imo, a third "faction" playing into AVALANCHE and whoever the major villain is.

He could still be a final boss though, if the other villain is killed first and Genesis loses it. He hasn't historically been the most emotionally stable character :monster:

Note: I'm talking from the point of view of what I think they might do, not what I want them to do...mostly because I don't really know what I want them to do with him.

To be honest, I think Genesis' parents were explained as well. They were the wealthy family in the town, and Genesis' fetus was injected with Gillian's cells. At least that's the way it seems to me. His parents that he had in the game could be his real parents. Sure it's wide enough open that a different scenario could be explained but I really don't think SE is going to go there, like Mog said.

Would it really be a good thing if they did? Might be borderline overkill-cheese. :P

Also, Sqex specifically calls The Rhapsodoses Genesis' foster parents/adoptive parents in the Crisis Core Q&A. So they aren't his real parents, and so far we don't know who they are. Or even really have any kind of clue :monster:

I don't think it would be cheesy if Sqex handled it well. Lazard being President Shinra's son was handled very well, for example, and there was cheese-potential there.

Kinda sucks how we don't even get to see his foster parents either :loopy: [But you gotta love the last name 'Rhapsodos' <3; ]
I mean sure, they're killed pretty early on, but what about a flashback or something, y'know? XD; But yes, surely Gen's origins must hold some interest, as the the other two had theirs explained and they were pretty darn important to the story [Hollander/Gillian in Crisis Core, and Hojo and Lucrecia [especially her] in DoC].

Exactly - I really liked the fact that they're including these more realistic scenarios and stuff, like Lazard being the president's illegitimate son. And yes, I really liked how they handled that, too. [Baaww, and poor Lazard...gotta feel a little sorry for him in the end.]

Let us keep our fingers crossed that Square, if they do consider it or use it, keeps any weird half brother/sister relations that Genesis might have out of the cheese. :shifty:

Oh so it was specifically stated that they weren't? I guess I somehow missed that. That does make it interesting.

Despite how utterly stupid it would be (not saying it's a bad idea, I just know Squex would wreck it) I would actually like it if Gast and/or Ifalna were Genesis' parents, simply because at least then their characters would finally be expanded on.

I am so frustrated that they were so fucking forgotten by the Compilation. I was so interested in them and I was so sure once the Compilation was announced that we'd finally hear more about them, but instead Gast was practically written out of DoC and Ifalna was pretty much never mentioned again.

I really, really want to see more of them. They had so much potential. :sadpanda:
