My mom's birthday is coming up in a two weeks and I was thinking of writing a poem for her. It would be free verse and it would be titled "It Takes Guts To Be A Mom".

Oh my god, I can't say. Lots of patience, a good sense of humour, an ability to shut up even when you know you're right and let the kid get on with making that dumb mistake he's hell bent on making, good home cooking, welcoming their friends into your home and not judging, teaching them not to be afraid of the world? Also, getting a bigger kick out of spending your money on them than on yourself. And knowing when to let go.

And love.

I think that's a great idea too, I think it would mean more if the content of the poem had personal stuff in it. Maybe think about a time she made you laugh, a time you felt particularly supported by her etc. I'd be pleased as punch to get a poem, I think it's a great idea Jazz :)
