WRO HQ
By staring at the original world map for way too long, I've come to the conclusion that it's in the plateaus you pass leaving Midgar.
My thoughts exactly, on the raised land next to the corridor south of Kalm. I also personally believe that Healin is directly opposite at the foot of the mountains
Also, if you take a look at the map in Lazard's office during CC, you can see marking of the locations for Banora and Modeoheim (seemingly alongside those of the world's reactors). I can't find an image online but check it out.
I think they want to keep it enigmatic, though. I mean, everything about Sephiroth is treated as top-secret in game, so why would they expose enormous amounts of shit about his childhood, & such?
As for the whole Hojo/Gast thing, it's obvious to basically everyone both inside the game & playing it that Gast is a better scientist than Hojo, a better person than Hojo, and is more likeable than Hojo, so the fact that Sephiroth likes him more isn't really surprising.
I think there should be some element of Sephiroth's background revealed. I appreciate it is mysterious and maybe should be left to the imagination, but to have very little at all is quite annoying. We know:
- the circumstances surrounding his birth
- that he was taken from his mother immediately after birth
- he was tested for his abilities as an supposed Ancient as a baby/child
- he thought very highly of Professor Gast (who was possibly his guardian)
- interest was dropped in his abilities as an Ancient after Ifalna was taken by Shinra for the first time
- he felt different from all the other children
- Gast told him the name of his 'mother'
- Gast left him to escape Shinra with Ifalna when he was approximately 6 years old
- as an adolescent, he joins SOLDIER
- he participates in the Wutai War, and is granted the rank of SOLDIER Captain at a young age
That's it. I can't think of any definitive facts other than that. For a major character, you have to say that's pretty poor.
Yeah, it's pretty obvious why Hojo is a dick, but I thought an expansion on Gast's role in the science dept when Hojo was young would have been interesting. For the small amount you learn of Gast, the guy seems to have his moral compass pretty stable. Well, let's just say as stable as possible given some of the experiments he was involved in. His successor, however...
I like the idea of their history and where Hollander, Grimoire and Bugenhagen fit into it
