Kinda late, but Zargabaath is up there. He has like six lines and they're all pretty great, and his first priority is to save Rabanastre even though everyone there hates Archadia.

Of the main cast, Penelo.

You haven't posted in four days, Fangu, but as soon as I saw that this thread had been bumped, I knew you'd turn up. <3

Well, if you can pull of Traveler, you can end all of them in 1 go, but it's kind of tricky to time it right. But yeah they're pretty horrible with all the Screams and bullshit :loopy:

I love the entire cast of this game with a love I don't feel for any other game except FFVII. But I'm particularly fond of Penelo and Fran. I don't particularly like Ashe as a person; I wouldn't want to spend my free time hanging out with her. As a character, though, she's great.

^I feel the same about Ashe. I can appreciate that she's a good character but she's not very likeable. It comes with her royal nature, she's serious for a reason, her kingdom has fallen and she's in despair for various reasons and going through a lot. It would be silly if she was optimistic and upbeat IMO, so I think the writers did her justice. Unfortunately, that doesn't make her likeable.

It's a tie between Basch and Gabranth. There was so much unexplored story between those two--which is something I could actually say about the majority of the characters in XII, but Basch and Gabranth's relationship was something that really left me feeling robbed once I had finished the game; I wanted to know more!

I felt like the purpose in Gabranth betraying Basch in that manner was his way of getting revenge for his homeland and making the world see him the same way.

Thanks for the good memories.
Balthier and Fran were the only characters that really stood out to me. The rest are pretty forgettable.

Like half (exaggerating) of the people in this thread voted Gabranth and he's not in the poll, yet friggin' Reks is in there? Madness! :monster:

My vote easily goes to Gabranth. He was more interesting than his brother, who in turn was more interesting than half of the main cast. Runner ups go to Basch, Larsa and Fran.

As the person who set up the poll, I'll answer this. If I had included Gabranth in the poll, then how could I have justified leaving out other NPCs, like the remaining judges? Wherever I drew the line, presumably based on "importance to the story", it would have been an arbitrary, subjective decision. By keeping it to "all playable characters and the primary antagonist", there's no room for my personal opinions to influence who made it onto the poll. Reks is a playable character. :P

That's fair. And hey I guess Reks is more likeable than Vaan anyway :monster:

For some reason I cannot fathom, I never liked Larsa on my first playthrough.
But, on my second playthrough some years later, I really liked him, and then came to realise how great a kid he is with everything he has to put with and do.

Balthier really stands out in the game for me, but I just had to give my vote to Larsa :)

Larsa's one of my favorites too. ^_^

It's funny, Balthier was the standout character for me on my first playthrough; he had the best lines, he had the airship, the Viera partner... but on my second playthrough and the ones to follow I grew a deep appreciation for Basch. He has an awesome backstory, and the fact that he was originally going to be the main character before they shoved Vaan in makes me wonder how the story would have gone if they'd left it that way. A loyal knight, framed for the murder of his king by his own brother, left to rot in prison until a miraculous escape, and then has to spend the majority of the game trying to prove his loyalty and innocence to the last member of the royal family he served and trying to stay one step ahead of the brother who's trying to kill him. Basch had a lot of dramatic weight in his story, and I wish it could have been expounded upon more than what we see in the game.

Not related to any particular post, just based on the level of love Balthier gets: Interesting about Balthier is he's the only character with a Western motion actor. They also changed the script somewhat to reflect his cockier side more than the original did. He's definitely the character that's put the most effort into appealing to the Western audience, which might explain why so many of us are fond of him, or even says he's the only character that ever stood out to them.

Well, he IS the leading man, what do you expect? :monster:
