Zack or Aerith?

My epic fail aerith sex thread brought up something that I found interesting. If you were Cloud who would you mourn more? Zack or Aerith? First off if I were Cloud, I probably wouldn't do the whole identity switch, because that also had to do with Cloud's mental state, not just the mako poisoning. I have a strange feeling it'd be Zack. i can't really put a name on why, I just kinda feel it. Maybe it's cuz I knew him longer, or maybe its that "best freind love" thing.

Zack. I'd have known him much longer and the guy gave his life for me! Zack always came off as a very supportive guy, someone who made a great friend, and someone who could show his emotions to others.

Aerith, on the other hand, I would have only known for a few weeks. In that amount of time, I would have grown close to her and she was nice, but it wouldn't be like Zack. And Sephiroth going crazy was indirectly responsible for Zack dying, anyway...:monster:

Zack, zack definitely zack! *Zack fangirl screams*

Well. I guess Aerith kinda wins since SE obviously portrays her much more than Zack in AC.
As for Cloud, I'd say pretty much the same. One is his best friend and the other is an important person to him.

I'd probably mourn them both for years. After a certain point it doesn't really matter who you mourn longer, witnessing two of your close friends being cut down like that would leave a pretty big scar on anyone.

I dunno. Probably Zack because they were closer. But then again he also failed to protect Aerith so that's something to mourn about.

Anyway it doesn't matter. They were both important to him. One way or the other.

I can hardly imagine my reaction towards two important people' death in front of me. It must be really really......

It's obvious to me that Cloud mourns them both very greatly. It's really tough to say which one he would mourn more, though, and which one I would mourn more if I were in his place. He knew Zack longer and the two of them became really good friends. Zack kind of seemed to take on an older brother role of sorts for Cloud, and basically was to Cloud what Angeal was to him. Then on the other hand, he became friends with Aerith just as quickly as he had Zack, and also he took the role of her bodyguard very seriously. Even after the initial clash with the Turks that was really the only thing he was asked to save her from, he took it to heart that he always had to protect her, because that's simply what Cloud does. He's demonstrated such behavior before regarding his promise to Tifa and his inability to not be able to save her from falling off that cliff when they were children and then rushing to her side in the reactor at Nibelheim.

I never got the impression that Cloud blamed himself for Zack's death, though. Protecting Zack was never Cloud's responsibility. Indeed, Zack was a first class SOLDIER and often times was the one looking after and protecting Cloud. Of course that in itself was probably guilt enough, maybe he thinks that Zack would have lived had he not been there to slow him down.

But yes, as I said earlier in the post Cloud did consider protecting Aerith to be his responsibility and he feels that his ineptitude at his job is what caused her death. Let's just be glad that Tifa didn't also die as well. As tough as she is and as much as she can probably take care of herself there's still the promise at the well and Cloud would probably feel that protecting Tifa was another one of his failed responsibilities.

Poor dude needs to sop being so hard on himself. :P

Wow, this is kind of a cruel question. I would mourn them both equally and as tragically. Cloud cared about both of them deeply, and they both impacted his life very strongly. Cloud's emotions really pour out in both death scenes. I have to say I cried more over Zack's death than Aerith's, but if I were in his shoes... it would just ruin me. Zack's death messed Cloud up, and Aerith's death brought on even more guilt and sadness. It just seems cruel to choose one person over the other, especially when they're both such large influences on him. I think he mourned them both equally, and thus, so would I were I him.

You can't quantify grief.

If you care about both, you're going to mourn both of them equally. It's not like a person only has X amount of "grief" for "mourning" and they can only devout so much of it to one person.

Question fails.

I don't think the question was phrased very well. What they're really asking is which death would have the greatest impact under the circumstances.

I still don't think you can quantify emotional responses like that.

I also agree with Masamune. =) For example, if my dog died compared to if my boyfriend died. I also think that if say, Tifa were to die compared to Aerith, Cloud would grieve over Tifa far more than he would grieve Aerith or Zack. I also stick by my original post though- Cruel question.

In Cloud's case, Zack and Aerith were equal. I believe this based on playing the game, and what I have read. Both deaths were extremely emotional, and both messed Cloud up to an equal level.

I have to disagree with you. Are you saying one person's death can't have a greater effect than another?
When they're people who are that close to you, how can you even compare them? My wording wasn't entirely clear - by "emotional responses like that" I meant emotional responses to deaths of comparable magnitude to Aerith's and Zack's.

Yes, well, neither Aerith nor Zack were the equivalent of a dog to Cloud. They were both pretty important to him for different reasons.

Zack the puppy, remember? xD

Yes, I agree. I was just pointing out that I think someone's death can be more important than another persons. ^^;

Let's say someone loses two people close to them, but one death throws them completely over the edge. Are you still saying one death can't have a greater impact than another?

I think that with the release of ACC this will be cleared up, like maybe they will show more scenes of Zack or something? and same with Aerith, maybe her too

It can, but under the circumstances delineated by FFVII's plot I can't see any reason one of them would have a greater impact than the other.

To be honest the only reason I can imagine one of two deaths throwing a person over the edge more is if they happened in close succession. Then again it wouldn't really be the second death itself that threw him over the edge, more the totality of the two combined.

Zack. Because if I were Cloud I'd be so gay for Zack it won't even be funny.

...but really. His death scene was more dramatic. That could be because of the graphics. :monster:

I won't have enough time to mourn for Aerith because she comes back anyway; and I'd feel her presence and all that jazz with the saving-the-planet business.

Also Zack died for me, I stole his personality, and I almost stole his girlfriend (not that I'd know she was his). Also, I lived his life. While he told me to, it won't stop me from being guilty. It should have been his spikiness saving the Planet and being the hero.
