Is Tekken - series or one game in particular - any good? (PlayStation console only.)

I will tell you that the series is amazeballs, some people will tell you that the series ended its glory at Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament, and others will say 5 and 6 are also fantastic.

6 is hella fun and looks so good.

But seeing as you're only going with PlayStation games, Tekken 3 should be the Tekken of choice imo.

I've loved Tekken ever since I was a kid and although I enjoy the series none of them have been as fun as Tekken 3. Maybe because I hate the way they developed Yoshimitsu and added a load of crap onto him. I wouldn't say there's any point going for Tekken 1 or 2. 3 has it all.

6 is mediocre.

The rest I enjoyed a great deal

Professional T6 players are absolutely hectic though. I balk when people say that Tekken needs absolutely no skill in playing the game.

Love Tekken, favourite beat em' up series and the original was one of the first games I played for the PS1.

@Xpelair: 3 is pretty good but honestly I think 2 is always gonna be my favourite Tekken because to me its a great prequel to what I consider to be the point where they added a proper story line to the Tekken series so I don't think saying there's no point in playing it is true.

Tekken 1 was essentially a Beat em up with a little bit of a story in it whereas Tekken 2 began the set up of a proper storyline where the Devil Gene and the background of the Mishima family came into play which then paved the way for Jin's story. Tekken 2 had some great fighters in it as well, Jun Kazama, Baek Doo San (and nobody please mention Asuka or Hwoarang in the newer games for these two because they are essentially clones moves wise) Bruce Irwin, the introduction of Lei Wulong and of course not forgetting Devil/Angel, Roger/Alex. Also if you put the right combination of buttons in while selecting characters you could make their heads bigger and their voices sound like chipmunks, that is a reason to play Tekken 2 right there alone.

Jun Kazama is in my opinion one of the best characters in Tekken 2 to use combo wise as long as you know how to combine her moveset properly, I think thats why I was so comfortable using Asuka right away in Tekken 5, her moveset is extremely similar and I was already really familiar with it from playing so long as Jun.

People I know sometimes complain about the ease it takes to pick up a Tekken game and beat people more skilled in the game. (A lot of my friends say this esp. the ones who put their effort into playing Street Fighter IV professionally :monster:)

In other words, the "no skill involved" complaint.

Tekken is infinitely more difficult to play at a professional level than SFIV, especially when "professional SFIV" usually involves the words Ken, Akuma, Ryu, or Sagat. :monster:

i.e. I only use Dan and can usually dominate my friends who have played it constantly since it came out (and I don't even own SFIV)

Tekken 3 is the shit. However, that dinosaur whose name I can't remember is the cheapest character I've ever played in any fighter.

I enjoyed Tag a lot. I was always more a Soul Calibur guy than Tekken (made by the same people, just different flavors), but definitely had fun with Tekken.

Maybe I'm stupid, but besides the mini-games and slight changes in physics (which ruined all my favourite combos), I think Tekken is pretty much the same it has always been since like Tekken 3 (first one I played), right? I got bored with the whole virtual remake-with-more-characters-and-better-graphics idea. I did buy Tekken 5 though, but shall never buy another Tekken game ever again.

Again, thanks guys. :)

... I have a friend into this game, and well - she's also into Sergei Dragunov.

And she got me hooked on him too. *sigh*

I swear! :(

And the best soundtrack, imo.

I'm usually pretty fond of all the Tekken soundtracks but compared to the all the previous ones Tekken 6 had a massive ensemble of composers. 3 discs of absolute hardcore stuff by dudes like Sakimoto, Takada and Shiina.

Has anyone posted tag tournament 2's new trailer? It's pretty awesome.
