The ingame models were constantly being tweaked in the lead up to release. Every trailer seemed to have subtle differences. Prerendered cutscenes = $$$. Way less likely to go back and meddle with those once they're done.

I'm loving it, kind of wish it was available from the start (tho balanced around a fresh save). Having to actually think about what materia I slot as opposed to the basic sense of equipping weaknesses in my first playthrough makes the fights feel much more engaging.
