FF 25th Anniversary Memorial Ultimanias

Do you think they will be made available in languages other than Japanese? I don't see anything in the article indicating that they will be. Unfortunate, if that is the case. I'd say this news would definitely be worthy of its own front page article if they were also going to be available in English.

Each one has between 320 and 336 pages, and they're the equivalent of $39, which honestly, I think is kind of a good price. The sample pages are vibrant and packed full of images I think I could spend days just staring at. I haven't seen the 20th Anniversary Ultimanias, but I definitely think these would be worth it for someone who doesn't have any of the Ultimanias already, such as myself.

I suggest a forum mod split the Ultimania talk into a separate thread, then somebody with time and skill can make the frontpage newspost about these books.

Or maybe just create a completely new, separate thread. Whatever works.

If anyone can be arsed to buy / translate this thing, don't worry about the money in buying it (at least), that can be covered.

Therein lies the rub, O Tentacled One. You made me that offer with the 20th Anniversary Scenario Ultimania, but since we only got three articles out of it (and I only posted brief snippets here and there on the forum otherwise), I didn't feel right asking for you to compensate me the cost of the book.

Can't promise I would get any more out of one of these. Especially since we don't even know what's in them.

Might order the damn thing only to find that it's filled with instruction booklet bios for the characters and a bunch of artwork we've already seen. :monster:

Still, I plan to get the one for VII, VIII, IX. Hopefully it has new, interesting stuff and I can be arsed.

Hopefully it'll have moar cloti evidence to rub in cleriths faces and an explanation for what the fuck Ozma and Necron are. Hopefully someone'll translate it and poast it to this site as well.

Hopefully it'll have ... an explanation for what the fuck Ozma and Necron are.
A previous Ultimania already explained Necron. This is from the Wiki:
In Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Ultimania - File 1: Character Book, Necron is described as, "a being awakened by Kuja's fear, despair, and hatred, which called out to it as he learned of his mortality, just as his ambitions were within reach".

I'm not sure Ozma has ever been fully explained, but I'm happy enough with the idea that it was an Eidolon that couldn't be summoned - probably because it was too powerful - and was therefore sealed in the "Eidolon cave".

As I recall, the FFIX Ultimania identified that little rock Ozma comes out of as an Eidolon Grave. Leads me to believe he's an Eidolon whose form has been forgotten -- perhaps all whose memories were associated with him died out.

I've never bought an ultimania before, but I want the VII, VIII and IX one very very badly. I'll definitely be getting it at some point. Will also scan and upload if anyone wants to see it but isn't getting it.

Happy to write the newspost for the ultimania thing. I'll have it done on Friday afternoon (UK time) if no one else jumps on it sooner. I might be able to do it tomorrow but I'm a bit busy so don't know if I can finish it by then.

Anyway yeah someone split the ultimania chat into a new thread plz for use in the article :monster:

This is interesting. I really wish I knew Japanese right about now because I would love to buy and read them. It's too bad Square keeps them only in Japanese. Thanks for the news about this!

I think it's out in Japan already :monster: Think it was the 18th it was being released at least.

I can't wait for peoples to have the goodies either :puppy:

I was thinking about getting these but somebody told me the Square Enix official JP site doesn't ship outside Japan and I'm not sure how I'd get it otherwise :( Think I'll wait until after Christmas/New Year before thinking about whether or not to try and get a volume or two somehow anyway :monster:

Amazon.co.jp ships internationally.

Has anyone given any further thought to ordering? My wife is playing coy about whether she ordered me vol. 2 as a Christmas present, so I don't know if I should order a copy or not. Guess I'll wait and see.

I'm having a similar issue over in my neck of the woods man, new Dresden Files book came out and I want to be reading it now... but there is a wrapped package that is clearly a hardback novel under the tree. Is it the very book I so long for? Fuck if I know, I just know that either way I don't get to read it until at least Christmas day.

Wait what was this thread about? Oh, right, moar Ultimanias. Woo!

I'm happy to do some translating of Vol. 2 as well. There are a few things of particular interest to me right off the bat: any new LTD quotes (of course), new details on Ultimecia and/or the Succession of Witches, anything new on Ozma or Necron.

I'm also curious to see if there's any new concept art for FFVIII.

I wasn't particularly interested in the other two books for a few reasons:

-None of the other games really have any story details I feel a powerful desire to see elaborated upon further
-I find Amano's art hideous (so this rules out any remaining need for the first book)
-I don't really give a shit about FFXI, and absolutely no fucks given about XIV (so, two of the five games detailed in the third book are irrelevant)
-While FFX is one of my absolutely favorites in the series, if there's any plot details, character history or artwork I don't already have between the FFX Scenario, Battle and Omega Ultimanias -- or in one of the three FFX-2 Ultimanias I own -- then I don't really need it at this point
-I kind of feel like hito has already shared plenty of relevant stuff from XIII's Ultimania with us -- and given the way each sequel to the game is determined to drive the plot further into nonsense, it probably doesn't much matter at this point anyway what Ultimanias have to say about the game's story beyond what we've already picked up on; XIII-2 felt so far removed from the original, I hardly cared, and Lightning Returns looks to be going even further down that road
-The first one covers six games and is only 336 pages, so that's about 56 pages per game; the third one covers five games and is also only 336 pages -- about 67 pages per game; Vol. 2 is 320 pages, and should be able to offer 100 or more pages for each of the three games it covers
