Completely out of nowhere. Releases in March.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, produced by JJ Abrams

JJ Abrams said:
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

Mary Elizabeth Winstead said:
““It’s basically my character wakes up in a cellar and I’m being kept down there by John Goodman. He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there’s been a nuclear fall-out. It does have similarity to Faults, in some ways, because you don’t know who’s telling the truth or who to believe. There’s a lot of, who’s manipulating who, and all of that. Tonally, it’s very different, but it has some of those same themes.”

^Looks like there was one of those creatures coming through the vent in that one second scene?

Anyway, I thought I'd heard something about a sequel coming out, but interesting to see it confirmed.
Not going to lie, Cloverfield freaked me the hell out. I haven't been able to watch it again after the first time, so I don't think I'll have the courage to watch a sequel. :awesome: I think it was the whole
people getting bit and then barfing up blood eventually from being infected and finally exploding or something like that. Either way, gory/gruesome deaths in anything often turn my stomach, and I can't watch it. That scene in the first one was unexpected, I didn't have time to look away, and it really made me all tense for the entire night. :closedmonster: Oddly enough I can watch Game of Thrones and most of the deaths there don't faze me...

Yeah the part through the tent with the bursting and ripping etc is unpleasant. Especially because they were my fave (am I cryptic enough to not have to use spoiler tags XD).

I've seen Cloverfield many taimus. This is unexpected. Withholding judgement until I see it, really hoping it at least keeps with continuity somewhat (i.e. I'd prefer it if this is set after the events of the original movie, which it seems to be from the trailer). It also looks like a movie about her being stuck in her house and going a bit nuts, which I'm not excited about.

But yeah huge shocker 0_0

The trailer doesn't do much for me. The trailers of the original Cloverfield were more exciting without showing the monster. I hope this trailer only shows stuff from right near the beginning of the film. If the entire film is something like this with the reveal at the end, it certainly isn't going to get my interest.

I don't remember disliking the previous film, I recall it being enjoyable, it just didn't live up to the hype.

I like John Goodman though. I wish he was my dad. IIRC he hasn't really done many dark roles, except for that nutjob in Barton Fink.

Maaaan I was hoping for another exciting found footage flick but I'll take it! I was hoping it would be a monster film akin to godzilla too.

100% excited. Cloverfield is one of my favourite films (small bias because it is a kaiju movie that takes place on my birthday), and I was one of the first people in the world who saw the trailer alongside a press screening of the first Transformers film.

Best last second reveal ever.

Here's the full poster for the film:

Additionally, the possibility of us seeing the Cloverfield monster itself seems pretty good – especially because you don't film a "trapped in a basement" movie and release it in IMAX without some spectacle to show.

Either way this seems interesting. I wasn't as obsessed with the original movie as everyone else was, but it was enjoyable for the most part.

Eh, looks better than the first. Am I the only one here who hates shakey cam videos and feels like it's coming on too strong by trying not to show the -big reveal-? Chronicle did the same thing. It takes something with a lot of potential and then throws a colour filter on it making it hard to enjoy the movie.

Chronicle & Cloverfield are actually the only two found-footage films that I really like, because I think that they managed to use it as a storytelling mechanism really well. Use of shakycam in non-found footage films actually bugs me a lot more, because it basically blurs out everything when it's supposed to be a normal shot.

That said, nothing about this looks to be using the same format, hence the "blood relative" of Cloverfield comment vs. calling it a sequel.

The poster had been posted previously, X. Yours is a tiny bit bigger though :P.
That's the same poster Tets posted. :P

'Cause bigger is better! :awesomonster: (but really, that's what I get for quick posting from work)

So it looks like maybe there's a monster outside so they're stuck in their underground home or something but then they go insane and the girl tries to get out and maybe it's about them running around outside with the monster?

but yeah I agree that I'm glad there's no shakey camera, I always hated those.

Looks like its not a found footage movie this time around. That's good, I can't stand the found footage format at all.

What I'm most curious about is whether or not this is taking place DURING the events in Cloverfield or after them.

I kinda assume at this point that John Goodman's character sees some of what's happening, or catches wind of it, and bails into the fallout shelter with the other two, but doesn't tell them. He essentially keeps them hostage, so they work on escaping, only to be faced with a totally different threat in the outside world.

No idea if that's the whole film, or just the first quarter of the film, but given the IMAX thing, I'd assume we're looking at it happening before the finale — especially because the escape is teased in the trailer.

I actually thought the video footage of the first film was quite clever, it's what made me want to keep watching it. :monster: Put it sort of 'realistically'. But, it's not something I'd like to see in movies very often.

I kind of like the idea of it.

But like, they're pretty much spoiled the shit out of it, unless like has been said, it's just the first 20 mins that appears in the trailer.

And we've already seen the Cloverfield* monster anyway. Or is this going to be a totally different monst? (yes I said monst)

*Which imo was a bit of a letdown and not nearly as scary or interesting as half of the internet speculations.

^Im really curious to know what the Internet speculations were now. One thing I really liked about the creature is that it's introduction and skills reminded me of Sin from FFX. You know, appears by destroying a big city out of nowhere and then has 'sin scales' that come off of it and turn out to be mini monsters that attack people... Yeah, totally made me think of Sin. :awesome:
