I've tried and I've tried, but recently I've been unable to create interesting/complex characters without hurting my brain
That said, I'm somewhat apprehensive about what my first posts are going to do to my head
Name: Erthys Connor-Guzman
Code Name: Destrillian Prototype # 000-000-002 – Thunder Child
Gender: Male
Age: 22 (9 years captivity)
Personality: At the early stages of life, Erthys’ home was in a state of decay and conflict, attributing to a dislike for authority. At the beginning of his time in captivity, he displayed a certain sense of flippancy, even when he understood the extent to which these “experiments” would affect him.
Erthys, for the most part, is an optimist, a surprising contrast to other Destrillians around him. He feels that he was ‘rescued’ rather than ‘given’ from his parents, and as such feels a degree of gratefulness towards them. Because of this, he is largely subservient and willing to partake in tests, although occasionally a mischievous streak may show itself. As to other Destrillians, he looks upon them as ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ and always hopes to provide an emotional foothold upon which their lives could be made a little better. His efforts, while for the most part futile, are examples of his paternalistic nature.
However, long years of experimentation have led to a hardly noticeable but gradual and constant deterioration of Erthys’ mental health. While he continues to maintain his comparatively bright and cheerful personality, the maturity gained from his experiences has started to plant the seeds of doubt into his mind. While he still unquestionably follows the orders of the Viola scientists, he occasionally wonders about his future, and whether he will die as he lived: a scientific experiment for genetic superiority.
Physical Appearance: Erthys’ physical appearance has been changed both to suit the specific needs of the scientists and also as a byproduct of unrelated scientific procedures. Once dark-brown/black hair has been faded into white, although hardly noticeable as it has been shaved to millimeters from the head. White stubble covers his chin up to his ears, which also hides a long thin scar reaching from the left side of his neck all the way up to the left corner of his mouth. His eyes are a multitude of shifting colours, but are dominated by flecks of electric blue, white and yellow. A heavy jawline completes the image of a heavyset man.
Erthys’ years of physical conditioning has left him very muscular and built for the extremes for hand-to-hand combat along with other modes of fighting and endurance, although compared to the others, he is slightly shorter and stockier in height and build. His skin is a very light shade, although this has arguably been the case for the most part of his life.
Like many of the other Destrillians, when not interacting with other Destrillians, he does not wear clothes. Interestingly, he is a little self-aware over this issue, but is, of course, ever-accepting to obey the rules of Violan personnel. When interacting with the others during “recreation”, he wraps himself in voluminous robes of white, streaked with light blue and yellow.
Elemental Power: Lightning
Physical/Elemental Abilities: Erthys’ powers are fairly average in comparison to the other Destrillians. Despite having been in captivity for quite a while (more so than most others in the facility) Erthys’ powers are still a little unstable, and at times, unpredictable. His attempt to bring his abilities under complete control has been a slow process. Erthys’s hand-to-hand skills has been rooted in ‘hard’ martial arts styles, but he excels in finding creative solutions to problems. He especially enjoys using makeshift weapons and loves to use objects he can run a current through, like, for example, metal chairs and tables, and puddles of water.
Erthys has the ability to control electricity, in particular controlling lightning and electric currents. By sheer force of will, he can use himself as a conduit to complete a circuit without causing any harm to himself, generate electricity, and, drawing from that ability, he can create large electric arcs, run electricity through objects to vary degrees, and even manipulate matter by toying with the very electrons of atoms. While Erthys’ abilities do not depend upon an existing source of electricity to empower him, he can amplify his elemental strength by carrying and dispersing huge electrical charges within his body. The unpredictability of his powers is not fuelled by his emotional instability, but rather caused by his lack of focus.
Forgotten History: Erthys’ early life was that of seclusion and loneliness. He was born (under the name Connors Guzman) into a hardy family, living under an average household with an average accumulated wealth, but his parents were strict and unforgiving during his upbringing, his father especially. Although initially, the physical hardships Connors underwent during his years was due to his father’s wish to teach him martial arts and school him in confronting the undesirable elements of the neighbourhood, it took its toll on Connors’ mental health.
The whole ordeal took a massive turn for the worse when an accident involving a circuit board killed his mother. The father driven into depression and alcoholism, Connors’ ‘conditioning’ and ‘training’ devolved into a regimen of verbal and physical abuse after hours of drinking, making his life, which was previously hard-bitten but survivable, a living nightmare, day in and day out.
As his mother was an employee at Viola, there was an investigation revolving around her death, and scientists took the opportunity to ‘liberate’ Connors, who they had vaguely deemed the cause. At the age of thirteen, a fading spark of rebellion still remaining, it was not hard for the Violan scientists to remove Connors, renamed ‘Erthys’, from the life-threatening presence of his father, who by now was degrading into a madman completely overwhelmed by grief and anger.
It was not difficult, either, after the same experimental processes that others had gone, to remove much of the original memories that Erthys had. His traumatic past, however, was altered somewhat less because it enabled them to appear to be his saviours, benevolent workers of science who had given him a new lease on life, and a new outlook on humanity. As far as Erthys is concerned, his removal from his parents is quite justified, although he does recognize the fact that his ‘brothers and sisters’ from other backgrounds may have been taken by less-than-moral means.
