All I can say is that Gravity had better win ALL THE AWARDS. Discuss.

I really hope "Her" gets some recognition. It's a beautiful film. Its up against some tough competition though. :(

To me the best two pictures of the year are Gravity and 12 Years A Slave, I haven't decided yet which one I think is the best.

I really hope Chiwetel Ejiofor wins Best Actor because he's great and someone who was in Serenity should win something.

Poor Leonardo Di Capro, he always gets nominated for Best Actor during years where there are so many unreal performances. Don't think this will be his year either.

It will probably play out like Dale Earnhardt with winning the Daytona 500. He'll finally win it -- then die while filming a sequel to that movie.

Why is Lone Ranger nominated in Visual Effects and Pacific Rim is not :/

I don't know what to feel if Jennifer Lawrence wins again, I think Lupita N'yongo deserves this one

Yeah give the man an award, one less thing for Tumblr to whine about :wacky:

Best Animated will probably go to Frozen, but I'd be happy to see Despicable Me 2 get it. It's a lot more of a kiddie film but I really enjoyed it and thought it did what it set out to do pretty well. I'm also completely biased in its favour because there's a minion called Kevin in it

I dunno, frozen felt slightly like a dreamworks cg film. A photocopy of a photocopy. It still had a bit of the disney magic, but not so much of the subtlty.

I'm pretty upset that Oblivion isnt on the list for music or visuals.

Sure the story was lackluster but I've been hard pressed to find anyone who thought the movie wasnt visually stunning or thought that the soundtrack wasnt down right amazing. :(

I think that literally the only new movies I've seen this year are Frozen and Pacific Rim (which isn't nominated for anything :( ), haha.

I'm pretty interested in how the animated category will turn out, especially since Pixar isn't represented at all (deservedly so, nothing against Monsters University, but it default winning over The Wind Rises or Frozen would have been even more aggravating than last year). I'm personally rooting for Frozen, especially since it likely won't win the song category, but I'd be OK with The Wind Rises winning. The latter would certainly be a bold choice for the Academy, being an animated biopic with a Japanese perspective on World War II. I think it's a toss up between the two.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you here, since I had the totally opposite reaction (I felt like Disney out Pixar'd Pixar). Frozen has its issues, especially in terms of pacing, but I felt like Brave had more issues and if that can win Frozen certainly should have a shot, and in terms of Disney princess movies it was fresher than Tangled, IMO. Maybe I'm just overly pleased that Disney ended up avoiding the knee-jerk reaction to make Elsa the villain, but I thought it was a good deal more nuanced than typical Disney stuff.

So I thought Lupita Nyong'o stole the night with her lovely acceptance speech:

Also Idina Menzel was as always brilliant when she sang Let it Go which won Best Original Song and I loved their acceptance speech:

Also Cate Blanchett said this about female films:

Fuck yeah.

Also they served pizza during the ceremony which is the greatest thing anyone can do at any event. :monster:

That's rather infuriating, but not surprising given how bullshit 90% of all the things with the inner workings of anything with the film industry are, ESPECIALLY when it comes to dealing with VFX or animation.

Honestly, apart from the usual animation ghetto I was pretty impressed with the choices for the awards this year. I can't really quibble with the results of any of the awards I actually cared about. Frozen unquestionably should have been a Best Picture nominee though (as should at least half of Pixar's films in years past).

I can imagine what happened last year for Brave to win over Wreck It Ralph then.
