Alien survival horror game about Ripley's Daughter, coming out for PC, PS4, & XboxOne. This has the potential to be REALLY amazing, especially since it's so different from the very "meh" Alien franchise games of recent past.

This could be good. Might be just the thing to bring back real survival horror.

I'm making an executive decision not to get juiced up (any more) about this. On the face of it, it could be great. But it depends if they're going to spoil it to death by A) Showing the goddamn aliens/jumpy bits in trailers and B)Following the film too closely. Like Colonial Marines did.

I'd want a game where you might only encounter the alien once or twice, where there are other considerations (supplies, problems with the ship etc) Where every decision you make could have life or death consequences. I'd want it to be as scary as Amnesia was, though I don't know if thats possible now we've seen the Alien a billion times.

Gah anyway I'm going to wait for the reviews :monster:

Minor note: you can't exactly, "show all the jumpy bits" in the trailer because the actions of the Alien aren't scripted - and there's only AN Alien. Sure you can see some of its animations, but what it does and how it does it and where it does it from is all based on how good you are (or aren't) about attracting its attention. Also, the game is supposed to be ~8-10 hours long.

The other good thing is putting it ~15 years after Alien means that you have a LOT more flexibility than you would putting something between the relatively short gap between Aliens & Alien³ like A:CM did. I think that the main difference is that everything so far have been AlienS-based games, whereas this is just based on the content from the first film, it doesn't have nearly as much baggage to drag along.

One question. When exactly did Ripley have the time to have a daughter?

Yup IIRC it wasn't planned and/or the father fucked off and left her or something. Its elaborated upon in the DC version of Aliens :nerd:

I do find it a bit far fetched though, is that the nostromo in those trailers? It was done blowed up! Unless theres some AU shenanigans going on.

Your nerdiness is most excellent. :monster:

Yeah, her daughter is mentioned at the beginning of Aliens.

It's not the Nostromo in the trailers, because that's space dust. It's some space station. Her daughter ends up getting called because there's a report that the black box from the Nostromo was found - i.e. she comes to get closure by figuring out what happened when her mother disappeared.

I'd assume that the station is where they go to hook it up and extract the data, but tbqh I haven't the faintest idea if that's the case, and I also don't know how the Xenomorph gets involved, but that's gonna be part of why it's a bit of a longer game.

I hope the game isn't like some kind of slenderman game in spaaace. In one of those videos, one of the developers says he didn't want to move without the scanner on. I think that really takes away from the game. That thing needs a battery life, so you're forced to not use it at times. That'd add to the intensity/spookiness, I think.

I think statement is more of them attempting to convey the sense of if being the only real asset that you have to know where the Xenomorph is, and make you feel like it's a necessity to your survival. That being said, there are going to be times where you'll need your hands to do something, like use the acetylene torch, opening doors, etc and so you won't be able to have it up at all times. I think that if there's an analogy I could make, it'd be like Detective Mode in the Batman: Arkham games, where it's something that you really want to check a lot, but there are reasons to not literally have it up at all times.

Who else wants to imagine that it's the same Xenomorph Ripley blasted into space? :monster:

That might be kind of awesome, and make it rather personal.
Does that mean that we should call him Kane? :awesomonster:

I think that "K.J. the Xenomorph" sounds far less intimidating than the 9ft monstrosity that's creeping around in those trailers. Hahaha.

Did some of the actors not give permission for their likeness to be used or something? Dallas looks a bit off, and Ash looks a bit like Alec Baldwin :closedmonster:

But still, exciting!

I think that might fall under the "Pre-release footage of bonus content that represents a Work in Progress" message at the beginning. :awesomonster:

Official Whatnot:

SEGA and Creative Assembly have just announced the first pre-order DLC details for Alien: Isolation. The DLC will include two missions, “Crew Expendable” and “Last Survivor” which allow players to reenact moments from the original ALIEN. Sigourney Weaver (Ripley), Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronic Cartwright (Lambert), Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), and Yaphet Kotto (Parker) will also be reprising their roles for Creative Assembly’s pre-order content. Ian Holm (Ash) doesn’t return but his character is still featured.

“Everyone who pre-orders the game will get a free upgrade to the ‘Nostromo Edition’, which includes the first of the two DLC missions, entitled “Crew Expendable”. Taking place moments after the death of Brett, it sees players assuming the role of Ripley, Dallas or Parker, as the crew of the Nostromo attempt to flush the alien from the air vents and into the ship’s airlock. Depending on which character you choose, you’ll have a slightly different perspective on events and will begin with different resources.

The second pre-order mission – “Last Survivor” – will be available through select retailers depending on territory. Set during the film’s dramatic finale, you play as Ripley and must activate the Nostromo’s self-destruct sequence and reach the Narcissus shuttle in order to escape.”

The Last Survivor DLC is available as a pre-order bonus via Gamestop in the US and via Game in the UK.

Wow, so much butthurt in the comments string over preorder DLC :monster:

Right?

I don't get it. As DLC, it's clearly something extra and made just for fans of the franchise (replaying two of the most tense scenarios in Alien), so if you get a "special edition" of the game for preordering it that has them from the get-go, and it's released later as DLC extra content for those wanting more from the game, what exactly is the big deal…?

I'm fucking sick of preorder DLC, and DLC exclusive to consoles, or retailers or any of that bullshit.
