It's not really rape. It's not the dogs fault that he got abused by his old master for that purpose. He's just doing what he was taught :monster:

Can a dog commit rape?

I mean...yeah she was violated but...the dog's a dog. It doesn't know anything.

But I suppose, since the definition of rape, is unwanted sexual advance without the other person's consent, that it would still legally classify as rape, even if the dog was none the wiser to the consequence of its actions.

Dude, expecting ADV to be the representation of english dubbing, is like looking at MTV as a representation of all human culture and creativity.

Well, the dog probably did not realize that you don't normally do that to humans because of its abuse I suppose, but she still didn't want it, so it is still rape.

I was lucky. My first dubs were Xenosaga and Metal Gear Solid. Then i watched Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha and G Gundam.
So if first impressions make or break dubs, I guess I was lucky enough to be sold on them.

My first impression with dubs were Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z, and I still can respect decently done dubs. :monster:

Yeah I wouldn't relate a dog licking a girl, and then her being annoyed and pushing him away and getting on with her life without being bothered by it, to something as serious and psychologically scarring as rape.

Dogs do shit like that sometimes, because they're animals and they don't know better. That doesn't equate to having your body violated and deflowered against your will by someone with ill intent or just wanting to take advantage of you.

I just remember her in the anime being like 'noooooooooooo stopppppppppppppp' because apparently she is too weak or something to fight off a dog licking her. Idk, after the gangster dude who tried to rape her I was just like 'oh jesus christ IS EVERYTHING ATTEMPTING TO FORCE SEX ON HER'.

The only dub that I enjoyed much more than the Japanese was the Trigun dub, because Milly's JP voice was absolutely grating.

I have to agree that Japaneses VAs usually do a much better job :/ Even when the dub is alright, the Japanese version is just better :/

Dubs in France used to be good for anime though - it's just that they started to not give a crap and it went downhill. When I say "used to be good", I'm talking about things like Galaxy Express 1999, Les Cités d'Or, Ulysse 31, and the oldies that never die [although the Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysse 31 used to be even better in French! Since they were a Japanese/French co-production XD BTW the Mysterious Cities of Gold are absolutely loved here, even though it's so old, it's just THAT good and if you can watch it one day DO IT]. I also remember Sherlock Holmes and others random animes~~ Ah, back then yeah, the dubs were absolutely awesome, truly awesome!

I should point out though that we do have a collector version of Hokuto no Ken thanks to the downhill of the dubs XD When a channel tries to make Hokuto no Ken kid-safe, it's absolutely hilarious XD Nowadays, they did redo everything, but damn, that collector version still exists because they know people love it XD

how do you make hokuto no ken kid-safe i don't even.

Even if the English dub is good, I'll still watch the Japanese one over it. Because I'm a snob like that :awesome:

I never actually saw (or heard) what was so much better about the English dub of Cowboy Bebop over the Japanese. I only watched a couple of episodes, but still. Didn't get it.

IIRC it was gangster doods. The difference was the dog wasn't trying to have sex, he was just being a dawg. It's just another retarded japanese attempt at humor.

If I'd criticize Gantz for anything really, it's the excessive gore and killing off of characters for shock value.

I like Christoper Sabat (who did like fifty million voices in DB and DBZ) uses his Piccolo voice for Dissidia Garland and Zoro in One Piece.
It's pretty awesome.

Sadly he and Dameon Clarke were the best voices in Z.

I can't believe we are talking about seinen and nobody has mentioned 20th Century Boys. For shame.

20th-century-boys.jpg

It's the best manga I've ever read, and a show that seinen isn't all about sex and gore; it's brilliant and thought provoking and I didn't even think I would ever describe any manga like that. It inspires hope and makes you hate society all at the same time, constantly reinvents itself to make itself even better, and keeps the reader questioning throughout the entire plot.
rly? Cause I remember her screaming about the dog licking her or some shit, though I could be misremembering.

If the dog did lick her vag I'd still call it rape, cause she seemed really upset by it in the show. Cause, yanno, it's a goddamn dog. Course, I have not watched Gantz in 4+ years so I may be misremembering.
Not saying that Gantz doesn't objectify women or treat them like something to fap to because it totally does, but he actually gets a lot better about it. In fact, the two later female leads are handled much better, and it coincides with the main character starting to actually respect them as well.

Gore in of itself I can handle, but there are a few points where it actually made me feel ill. However I honestly thought that it gets so much better later on. Even when characters still do die by the handfuls, he starts building a team you actually root for and the main character actually becomes someone you like. It was totally worth the wait getting to that point.

@hito: that's why it's filled with awesomeness and lulz XD Back then though they also censored a lot of anime - Maison Ikkoku had them getting drunk out of orange juice, City Hunter had Ryo proposing the women to go to veggies restaurants instead of love hotel, etc, etc.

No seriously. THE LULZ it brought XD Not to mention, may it be City Hunter or Hokuto no Ken, it had the same guy playing all the bad guys giving them ridiculous surnames. XD And yeah, in Hokuto no Ken, they just made up their own scenarios too XD Seriously, it was LULZ. XD That's why it's collector XD

I can vouch for French dubs actually. I watched Spirited Away in French and imo it was better than the English version (and I actually thought the english version was already good). I also like to watch Advent Children in french. Yeah, I'm cool like that.

Cowboy Bebop is better in English because Spike's voice actually suits him. Also, I think the environment of the show just works better in English. Conversely, there is no way I can get through an episode of Samurai Champloo in English, even though I wouldn't consider that dub bad.

My big problem with dubs is the oversaturation of the industry in american voice acting.

I am tired of hearing the same voice with wildly different character from show to show. I know these people have range but they don't seem to use it. It's gotten retarded.

Also, GITS, FMA, Samurai Champloo and Bebop all have fantastic dubs. Gungrave too.

I also have to second the Trigun dub is awesome post. I just watched it for the first time a ew weeks ago and it was epic.
Who'd have thought Kenshin could sound so demented and creepy? (his VA did Legato)

Also JYB as Vash is totally different from his Ichigo or most of the other roles I know him from. Wish he was like that more often. The only other role I know of as good as his Vash was his Sasori.

Still, I'll never find a dub I love more than G Gundam.

I like the Japanese VA's better, simply because if the acting is total and complete shit, I won't be able to notice anyway.

I can vouch for French dubs actually.
I don't doubt it. Apparently France's anime industry is insane.

That is all I remember from seeing it now, but I couldn't see what what's-his-name-English-guy did better than Kouichi Yamadera.

But I would listen to that man read a phone book :sadpanda:

Steven Blum.
He also does Vincent if you ever watch AC or played English DoC.

Though I think his best role was as Shishio in Kenshin.

Steve Blum? Steve Blum is fucking amazing. But he's also in every anime/video game known to man. Any time there is a bad ass or gravely voiced character, there's a fifty percent chance Steve Blum is him. Grunt (ME), Orochimaru (Naruto), Zabuza (Naruto), Oghren (DA: O), Irving (DA: O), ROger Smith (Big O), Mugen (Samurai Camploo), Zegram Ghart (Rouge Galaxy), even Vincent Valentine.

No one seems to care that he is everywhere.

EDIT: Gabranth, you beat me to it. I hate you.
