Hello, my name is Henry N. and I am a semi-professional 3D Modeler. I have some skills in 3D Graphics and Im quite familiar with using 3D programs such as Blender and Milkshape. Since late 2008 searching around the internet I have found out ways to insert new models to the PC version of Final Fantasy VII. And I thought it would be pretty cool to have Cloud and co. in Advent Children outfit. So I have been working on it since then and the result turned out wonderfully. I have created a website about this and you can visit it here: http://namespooferff7.synthasite.com/

For those who are interested in this, I post some in-game screenshots here. Please comment and tell me what you think.

Also, I like this, please do not draw attention to it. I do not want you to get a Cease and Desist.

You sir, are extremely talented.

Some of the models are a bit rough, like Barret and Vincent but....the rest of this looks damn good. I love it. Can you tell us more about it, because some of the monsters are different and stuff. I'd love to know more. Can you choose not to use AC Cloud, and use that pretty FFVII one you made? :monster:

Not Impressed.

People these models are ported from Kingdom Hearts, some with slight modifications. This is the exact thing Qhimm was getting in trouble off Square from.

Also most of the Vincent model parts are off the one a friend of mine made for Jedi Academy.

refoopseman, if you actually consider yourself a 3D modeler, you should have more respect for other people's work and be making all the models from scratch yourself, that way the stuff is your own and it will give you a greater sense of satisfaction. Not to mention using ported content always runs the risk of the content's owners coming after you.

So it seems like you have the potential, so why not give a try at making scratch built model? The more things you actualy make yourself, the better your skills will be and you'll find it much better than using other peoples work.

Even if they're ported from KH, they still look pretty damn awesome and way better than the original game. It would definitely suck if they resulted in a cease and desist order though, so yeah.

I did notice there was a great resemblance in the character models and as a artist and designer myself I heavily look down upon anyone who ports and slightly adjusts other peoples work but if he can get them to work in the game, that's what impresses me.

I understand the fact that most people will look down on any modders/3D modelers who used models from other games. The point is that, I myself can build a model from scratch, but why do I have to do that? To create a model like the ones above ( I mean just one single model ) will take me at least a month or two to finish. So to do all of them like this will take me years. Plus, the models I make may not be as good. You must remember that Square has a team of hundreds of modelers doing this stuff, but I am just working on this alone.

And I do this for the good of FF7, most FF7 fans will not care if those are models from whatever game. Well, the original creators of those models might care, so thats why I have to say in my website that I am not going to release this. But for those who have FF7 PC and really to get their hands on those I can share to you via email.

Peace

There was no SOLDIER attire Cloud model
in KH.
So they probably needed some tweaking.

It's still pretty awesome, though ^_^

Generally the reason people look down on the model porting is cause it's against the EULA, and anyone seeking to work in the games industry will steer clear of such things cause it won't look good to potential employers. However if you're not looking at going into that field there isn't really much of an Issue.

Tho some friendly advice just so as to avoid the wrath of square (its unlikely but can happen those guys are unpredictable). Even tho it's mentioned on your sight you should make it loud and clear anywhere you post about this that these are Square's models and you've just modified them, just in the event they do come across you they're more likely to ignore it if you've clearly established the original work is theirs otherwise they might thing you're trying to rip off their stuff (might even not care if you release it then either).

Also in the case of the Vincent model, the one made for Jedi Academy that you've used parts of was made by a user called 'Eclypse', and I'm sure he'd be cool with you using parts of his model just as long as you give him credit. (Usually it's best to ask the author of a model but if you at least credit them they're usualy ok with it.)

But yes, I just always encourage people to model things for themselves rather than use ported stuff as it gives you more experience and adds a personal touch to your project~. And yes I know you said it'd take a long time to model the characters yourself but you'd be surprised how quick things can be done in low poly modeling when you've created male and female base models to go off, like I made Reno, Rude, Elena and Rufus for Jedi academy in like a month by just making Rude and modifying his model into the others.

(PS Sorry if I came off a bit imposing just I've had people rip off my stuff before and I tend to get a bit worked up on the subject of porting and such)

these are pretty low quality, even if they are low-poly models, the faces could look 200% better and the quality of them, and still let ff7 run smoothly. its also very dissapointing that you ported them from kh, by the way that you were talking you implied that you made them from scratch... and you cant be much of a decent modeler if something that low poly and badly modelled would take you a month.

You DID import them from KH? Okay... be honest about it then, I won't have a problem with it if you're honest but don't port stuff and say you made it yourself. And if you did take someone else's model and just tweak them then shame on you. That's a horrible and dishonorable thing to do. You give credit when credit is due and you be honest about it. If you had just said this from the start I wouldn't have had a problem with it but... I really hate liars and people who steal.

Since you did admit it though when confronted, I do respect that you were honest about it and didn't beat around the bush. Please just be honest from now on because I would like to see what you can do with this. I can't believe I didn't recognize the KH models >_< What kind of KH fan am I?...

hey can you get Demyx's model?

Also, to elablorate on model times, the current character model I've been making for work who bares a striking resemblance to the BC shotgun turk (I'll share pics in my midgar thread when shes done ;) ) took me about 3 days to model and set up a basic texture (still need to improve that) and she's fairly high poly.

Pretty much a low poly model of the quality of those in KH shouldn't take more than a couple of days if you're just working on it in your spare time, and the texture shouldnt take more than a couple of days also, especialy if you claim to be semi-professional (I'd place myself in this catagory and I do architectural models for a living and have also scratch built this still WIP but highly detailed model of Midgar http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x103/NoenGaruth/MidgarMassive.jpg )

Also I'll add that if you make your own models you then have a greater freedom of what you can do with them, such as if you wish you can insert them into other games as custom player models, which you can't do with the KH ones no matter how much you modify them since the major mod sites such as filefront have a zero tollarance policy on model porting.

So really you should give it a shot, maybe try it for a character like Scarlet or Rufus who have no models in KH? Your project will only gain to benefit from it.

Excuse me, I have never said that I created those models. I only said that I can insert those models into the game. The reason I didn't state who created these models because I learnt the lesson from the Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes team. They got a C&D because right from the beggining they stated that they were using square's materials and square used that to issue a C&D ( just google for this C&D saga and you will understand ). So my apologize to everyone. I wanted to keep this low profile so that was why I posted in this quiet section.

The thing is its too late now. I have gone this far so I see no point in destroying my work. And as said, I am just semi-professional. Modding is my hobby not my job. I don't wanna put too much effort to something I gain no profit.

@cmxt: even if I had the 1 million polygons cloud model from advent children movie, it wouldn't look better. The ways this 1997 game handles it: no light in battle mode, crappy animation, textures must be in 256 color bmp and with low resolution. This is the best it can get, if you want better then the game must be remade.
