I have to say that some of the decisions and changes that are surfacing now do immediately seem baffling, but I will hold off judgement until I see if the execution is better in practice. Removing Sokka's sexism is a massive part of his personal character arc and development just wiped away. However, in practice, he could still have a similar (though not better than the original of course) 'journey' if they focused on his arrogance.

But the bigger issue of this, for me personally, is how it plays into the Water Tribe. If (not sure yet if this has been confirmed in any interviews) they have removed the hierarchical nature of the tribe, then that affects Sokka, Katara and a huge chunk of story across multiple seasons, which makes the reasoning for removing Sokka's sexism in the first place really the worst possible choice.

But we'll see.

Something I love about Avatar is how not-precious they are about the setting. Every time they move forward they have no hesitations about wiping the board and shocking us.

I loved the concept for Korra, where the hard-fought victories of ATLA changed the freaking tech level, you never see that in fantasy.

And Korra…

…as, like, “the Avatar who fucked up” changed the setting even during the run of her own show. The Season 2 finale made me SO MAD especially because she cut off all previous lives, but that’s kind of the genius of the show.

A generation passing since the merging of the worlds is definitely going to have a major impact (hell, even by Season 3 the sandcastle was coming down). I trust the creators completely to convincingly develop a unique setting that will surprise me, maybe even piss me off, but will reward me the deeper I look.

I am… less thrilled about the twins thing. I think the series shines when they are more complex than good/evil/light/dark dualities. They haven’t always subverted it (Vaatu and whatsername bug the hell out of me) but I will try and reserve judgement on this twin-Avatar thing.

Yeah… 😭😭😭

The impact it will have on this new show specifically is what I was afraid of. Like, these new kids aren’t gonna have Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, and Korra? The whole core concept of a past-lives hero is that the longer it goes on, the more it pays off. Exceppppppt Korra went and fucked it up
