Batman Arkham Asylum

So I played the demo and I was really surprised at how fun it was, and I'll probably be getting it once I get some money. But I gotta as, why did they have to use the Unreal 3 engine. I'm so tired of seeing it with every single game that comes out now . It doesn't even look that good...

Game looks awesome, and the demo isn't even close to the main game.

I see no issue with any part of the game regardless of the UE3.

I dunno, I thought the engine was fine for this game. Little details like how Batman would grimace when he pulls down walls were wonderful touches.

I mean, the art style of the game was fairly consistent with the comics. I'm not sure how they could have changed it without just making it more stylized. Batman as a series has a lot of ripped, beefy characters after all.

Personally I'd have preferred they use Cryengine 2 but I suppose UE3 was more intuitive and quicker to develop with.

Depending on if you get all the Riddler's puzzles, he gets caught by the cops, you see Ivy getting re-committed, Croc never really left, Bane's got his gigantic hand on the Titan formula, but I don't recall seeing either Zsasz or Scarecrow. Scarecrow being the most questionable since he got attacked by Croc.

Anyhows, nice that Batman gets to go take care of Dent right after this whole fiasco.

I'll have to check out the Visitor Center more frequently to see what sort of things Joker has to say throughout. Thanks for the combat tips Dacon, they've helped out a lot so far.

I got bane also but then again i couldnt see scarecrow getting away from killer croc or croc getting out of the sewer system lol.
Some nice touches in the game in regards to the other characters like tweedledum and tweedledee etc. Clayface took me a few seconds to pick up on though until i realised it had no bones at all and was switching shape every few mins lmao.

All in all i think the tapes were the defining point in the game, it was awesome seeing Zsasz terrorize his physician so badly she was afraid to back in with him. That and the beginning of quinn's alter ego.

Anyone else rather impressed by some of the moves they pulled off with quinn's character?

You should read Mad Love. For folks like me who have, there were no real surprises, and it seemed like it was ripped straight from the book.

If you look in detective mode, Clayface doesn't have any bones, and that's what clued me in on him right away. Seeing Freeze in the containment cell was pretty fantastic, though I kinda wish you could've made him out aside from the cascading ice.

I really enjoyed the side battle of wits with the Riddler that goes on the whole time, as he gets more and more aggrivated with you up until he finally gets taken down. I'd hate to see what Crane would do with Titan, let ALONE how fucking scary Croc would be. Though in a followup - even DLC, it'd be cool to see Batman going after Two-Face, like they talked about over the police radio before he takes off in the Bat Wing.

I'm WAY curious as to what causes the change in who grabs the Titan at the end. Did you get all three Dacon, or've you just seen/heard about different ones? Here's my ending results.

Bane:
• ~5-10% of the Challenges.
• All the Riddler Secrets.
• All Trophies/Bios.
• All Upgrades.
- Also - got my game from Gamestop in case that makes a difference.

Holy shit, I hope that the DLC involves the incident with Two-face after Batman blows up his hand. I have a sneaking suspicion that Ras Al Ghul is gonna make a full blown appearance too since he vanished from the damn morgue, (thanks for having me check Dr. Young's Office Dacon). Who else was mentioned a lot that wasn't seen already in Arkham, since it's locked down now?

They've got a hell of a good list of villians designed for the game that weren't currently contained in Arkham that they could use for the DLC.

Plenty that could join Harley and Freeze, and likely Joker in the inner holding cells (forgot the room name).

It'd be interesting to see the game actually travel into Gotham, stopping bank robberies and such using stealth, and finding ways into buildings to busy other criminals. You'll probably get to see

Oracle, since you rescued her dad. And the Sonic Batarang could be replaced with a new gadget, as well as the Explosive Gel, since Bats tossed it away near the end of the game.

No. Seeing Oracle is unlikely. When she was operating out of the Clock Tower before Black Mask destroyed it, she had very little contact with him in person, and afterward they agreed to keep their operations separate meeting only in their civies.

I'd rather they keep it that way. If we go to gotham I hope they keep the same game structure instead of attempting some failure of an open world game.

I fully agree that it should be kept to the same overall playstyle, because that's a big part of what made the game enjoyable. Hell, Detective Mode made a good way of keeping you going towards an objective in a subtle way that could be used really well in a city environment. I don't wanna just be wanderings the streets fighting crime, and I don't see that happening with DLC content. The only way I see that is if they decide to mess with things in a legit sequel, and I don't think they'd do that, (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). A few open air places, but mostly breaking into warehouses, and following people through the sewers, and other escape routes is what I'm hoping for. I think that Arkham Asylum left just enough to make some good small missions for that.

Anyone else addicted to freeflow combat and the invisible predator modes? Seriously both could have been their own game. I can't get enough of beating the shit out of thugs and harrassing them till they wet themselves in fear.

The only reason I play the invisible predator challenges more than the freeflow ones is the damn counter icon that annoys the hell out of me after playing through hard.
