Srsly, my heart is a swinging brick but that version is just more emotional and powerful, the end credits version was just overblown and schmaltzy imo.

They've been having pop renditions of songs in the credits for awhile now. One example I can think of off the top of my head is Demi Lovato's version of Let It Go in Frozen. I would say Lana del Rey's version of Once Upon a Dream counts too, but it wasn't actually featured in the story itself, just the end credits and the trailer. Lily James did a version of A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes for Cinderella, but it doesn't have a pop feel to it, and I think it may just be in the credits also.

I don't mind end credit ballad versions of songs that were sung in the movie by a character. "A Whole New World", "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", "Colors of the Wind", "Somewhere Out There", etc. Though I saw Moana recently, "How Far I'll Go" I thought was better sung by Auli'i Cravalho.

My only real issue is that the Beast apparently knows how to read. Aside from that, it's perfect. Going with my girlfriend on opening night.

Regarding the song: I love Ariana, but I'm not feeling that.

Regarding the remake itself: When I was about six years old, the original was my favorite movie. I wore a VHS of it out. Can't tell you the last time I actually watched it, but I've always loved it.

I really don't know if I intend to see this, much as I love Emma Watson, perfect as Gaston's casting seems, and excellent as that trailer is. I just don't know.

The ending credits versions have ALWAYS been worse than the film one. I can't think of a single disney song for which that isn't true. 1000 Words in X-2 is better in the credits (because the pop version is the one IN the game), but in disney movies, they always take a fairly timeless melody that fits the emotions of the scene and do it in a shitty pop version. This is why I hope that maybe this trailer version is the one in the credits, but I dunno how realistic that is.

The Ariana Grande version sounds like its recorded over a keyboard drum loop.

I'll probably go see this. Ive been meaning to catch up on some movies the last few weeks.

What event just randomly invites Murder She Wrote to come sing Disney songs?

I love Emma's singing voice, I love her expressions and her role as Belle thus far... but in the scenes where she's just seen as walking, she's kind of... stomping along? She has her nose in a book in the cartoon and is very wistful, this seems a bit... off.

I'm going to put this out there: This trailer is being pushed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay towards the romantic side, and not really dealing with the characters as they originally start out. Which is always something you have to becareful about when it comes to analyzing a trailer to the point where it colors your impression of the film before its out. I'll point to Ghostbusters 2016; Godawful trailer, turned out to be one of my top films of the decade so far.

There are little hints here in the quicker cuts that she's going to have some of Belle's uppity-ness when dealing with Gaston. There's clearly a moment right from her more exasperated lines in "Belle's Reprise" where she's mocking the idea of being Gaston's trophey wife. And if I'm honest, the times when Emma Watson really shined in Harry Potter was when Hermione Granger was allowed to be the character that slaps the other characters on the back of the head for being idiots. I can see her bring that to Belle's relationship with Beast, and a lot of earned chemistry. Again, the trailer seems to cut right past ANY of that timeline, moving from him rescuing her to them bonding over books and garden animals. Since we know this is sticking really close to the original plot, the entire second act is basically not acknowledged in this trailer.

So I'm gonna stick on my "Optimistic Squad" badge and go in with high hopes for Watson and the rest of the cast.

My impression is that unlike the original, the song here is a little more deigetic. In OG, the people are gossiping in song very loudly, yet somehow Belle's so distracted in her books that she doesn't notice she's constantly the talk of the town. That flies in a cartoon, but doesn't here. Instead, she seems very much aware of what everyone thinks of her and is all like "Well screw you too," about it. She's marching to the tune of her own drum, and I like it. Probably because I did a lot of the same in my teen years.

...Also on reflection she's trying really hard to make her face match the animated character, and well, it does come off a little weird. Emma Watson reminds a lot of Uma Thurman, in that sometimes she's gorgeous on camera and other times her face is um...well...odd looking. Dem eyebrows and cheekbones can go into Bruce Campbell territory sometimes.

To me Belle seems quite haughty during this number. Me no likies.
...To be fair, look at the idiots she's stuck living with. Especially playing up this whole "Boys go to school, girls help mum do the laundry" bit. Its unrealistic for the time, but a character like Belle'd be kind of pissed off if she were living in that kind of society.

I know but still :monster:

She's been a broadway star for ages. Mami, Sweeny Todd, then she did a stint with Disney for both Bednobs and Broomsticks, and Beauty&The Beast (Yay alliteration). She's got acting chops. and a hell of a set of pipes. Murder She Wrote came at a time when she wanted to settle down from the exhaustion of huge musical numbers and get a steadier paycheck with better hours and less work. I mean, she was in her what, 60s by the time that show rolled around?

I get it, I really do, but it's just not the Belle I'm used to.

I don't like the way Emma has reinvented the character. Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up, and it's still my favorite now, so I'll just admit it now that I'm biased about the way this movie's been handled. I don't think Emma was a good choice for the role because I feel she's approaching this role the way she approached Hermione in Harry Potter, and I feel like she's reinventing Belle to be unrecognizable from her animated incarnation. I can't stand the way the yellow dress has been redesigned. The Beast looks more human than beast. I just... blegh, I'll stop now.

Yes, I know I'm being grossly unfair to this movie, I admit. And I'm not an Emma Watson hater, I promise. I genuinely don't feel connection to her portrayal of this character I've loved since I was a toddler. Will I still go see it? Eh, probably. I don't see movies very often in theaters anymore, maybe 2-3 a year, tops. Going to the movies is an expensive endeavor nowdays.

I am excited for the music and the score though, I can say that. :monster:

Oh trust me. I was so there in the same boat for Malifecent. That movie was a disaster.

And every fucking Platinum Dunes horror remake ever. v_v;

Oh mans, I am thoroughly in the optimistic squad about this movie, but I also don't think that I could more thoroughly disagree with your opinions on those other films, so… here's to hoping we both enjoy it somehow!
