I'd have to add that I view Lost's complexity as a strength, since it's pretty clear the writers are trying to make the show into a metaphor for human existence as a whole, and possibly even an allegory for history (although that's stretching it a bit), and the real world is nothing if not complex. Lost's complexity doesn't get to the point where it seems like the writers have completely lost control of their own creation like a lot of other shows that try this kind of experiment do; it's pretty clear that most of the major plot twists have been plotted in advance, just due to how thoroughly they redefine the context of everything that's come before, and on how many levels they work.
