Following the nominations phase, it's time to choose our next community playthrough game. Since we have lots of new members, I'll explain how the event works again - skip the next paragraph if you're familiar with it.

The idea is that lots of our members play through a specific game at roughly the same time. A small portion of the game, called a chapter, will be assigned every few days or every week, and you can play it at any time, or join in with a Skype/Mumble call where we all play it together. After you have played, you can post about your experiences and join in with discussion about the game. It doesn't matter whether you're a first-time player, a seasoned veteran or anything in between - everyone is welcome to join in!

With that said, please read these simple instructions before you vote.

  • You may vote for as many games as you want. Bear in mind the availability of each game (detailed below) when making your decision.
  • We will be playing in July 2015. By voting, you are saying "if this game is chosen, I'm in"; please don't vote if you won't be able to take part.
  • The game with the most votes on the 28th of June (one week from now) will be chosen.
  • If you have completed any of the games you are voting for and feel that you know them well enough to help run the playthrough, please say so in this thread. :)
The games on the poll are:

  • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
  • Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (PS2)
  • Final Fantasy IV (SNES, PS1, GBA, DS, PSP, iOS, Android, PC)
  • Final Fantasy V (SNES, PS1, GBA, iOS, Android)
  • Final Fantasy VI (SNES, PS1, GBA)
  • Final Fantasy VII (PS1, PC)
  • Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
  • Final Fantasy X (PS2, PS3, PS4)
  • Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, XB360, PC)
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3, XB360, PC)
  • Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA)
  • Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (3DS, iOS)
Lots of those games can be emulated on a PC: it's very easy to emulate the SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and PS1 on just about any machine, and it's possible to emulate the PS2 and PSP on reasonably powerful computers. If you don't want to use an emulator, many of them are also available on the PSN, Wii Virtual Console, and so on, while many of the PC games can be picked up inexpensively on Steam or the Humble Store.

May the best game win!

Just to clarify (forgive me, new to this concept) we wouldn't be share-playing like on Twitch or anything. This is just more or less a video game version of a book club?

Yes, essentially. There are usually one or two people who like to stream their playthroughs but it's not mandatory. You can play whenever you want; even if you fall behind the schedule, you can take as much time as you need to catch up.

Okay made my selections:

FFV, FF6 I am able to emulate real easy on my PC, and could even post up LPs of the segments since the SNES emulator I use has a super easy AVI recorder built-in.

I can play Crisis Core, FF13, FF13-2 and FF9 as well, but wouldn't be able to really showcase anything from those (except screencaps of FF9 / FFXIII-2)

I didn't vote for FF7 only because I'm playing that on my own time on my PSP and I'm a decent way into it to where I wouldn't want to go back (I've spent like 9 hours power-leveling my characters on the shores near Mideel and have mastered several materia... and I'm not even at the Temple of the Ancients yet. I like to level to the point where I break the balance lol)

I picked FFVI, V, Crisis Core and XII mostly because I can get my hands on every single one of them. I'm in the middle of an FFVI game that the moment but I'm not that far into it so restarting it wouldn't bother me too much :)

I voted for FFV, FFXIII-2, and FF Tactics. I've played V and XIII-2, but would love to play either of them again, and Force is always trying to get me to play through Tactics. I started a game once, but something else ended up distracting me. Whoops.

I've voted Crisis Core, IV, VII, IX, X and XIII. :monster:

In the three polls we've had since the last Final Fantasy VII community playthrough (which wasn't decided by a poll), V has come sixth, second and second again, so it's narrowly missed out on a couple of occasions. The appetite for it is clearly there, but it might be destined to always be the bridesmaid. :closedmonster:

It was one of my nominations, so I'd be happy to play it, but I'm also tempted to go for one of the VII-related titles for the way we could publicise it and potentially attract new members. Regardless, I won't be voting unless I have to break a tie at the end.

I love FFV, but because of the announcement I for sure would rather we as a community played one of the Compilation titles right now.

Yeah, I think I have to agree with Lex on this. It'd probably be most suitable to play the original game, but I haven't decided yet.

I guess I'm on the FFVII bandwagon as well, would love Crisis Core as well. :monster:

Gagh! I don't have CC, which has a substantial lead, which makes this the third time in a row that I can't participate in one of these, despite owning at least half the options available.

I'm okay with crisis core, but I hope we can adventure around with final fantasy 12.

Final Fantasy V want-to-players, be warned: THE SCALE HAS BEEN TIPPED, I REPEAT, THE SCALE HAS BEEN TIPPED.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to finally finish Crisis Core then, lol :monster:

I'm ok with Crisis Core, obviously, but if it goes to VII, I might not fully participate, as I'm about to climb Gaea's Cliff in the playthrough I'm doing on my own right now (which I started BEFORE the announcement, thank you very much  ). I might answer some questions since it's fresh in my mind, but I won't be starting over, nor will I be waiting for the lot of you to catch up to where I am, haha.

I still think I'd rather play V though...

I might, depending what game wins and how much free time I have. If nothing else I'll at least be able to contribute to the discussion if it's a game I've played before (so if it's IV through VII, IX, or X, basically).

I feel like FF5 is going to remain the Red Sox for many months. Always on the cusp of breaking the curse but o'ershadowed by more popular games. If it's CC, I'm down. If it's FF7, the best I can do is join in the middle once you get around to the Temple of the Ancients bit. Not gonna restart after all that power-levels, lol. But like The Man I can totally join the convo as I know that game like the back of my hand.

As much as I loathe the comparison to the Red Sox, it's funny how our polls have given it similar treatment as it has received in its wider renown among FF :monster:
