My impression is that this is the dialogue people are meant to hear over their headphones as they roam the exhibit.

I transcribed the left half of the page, but there are almost certainly errors in my transcription and google translate is (almost) useless here.

for a moment i was like, "you better not be taking my job here, google translate" but then i got to "flowers, don't step on me" and i felt a little safer

I don't know how that works. Can plants subsist on artificial lighting?

I'd be more inclined to believe that Midgar area is somewhere on the border between subtropical and tropical. Not that FFVII's world remotely tries to use climate as anything but an aesthetic, but Midgar and Costa del sol are right across from each other.

RE: flowers and artificial light: yes they can grow under artificial lights but they're pretty specific types, so street lighting wouldn't cut it. I always figured that Aeris' house and the church got a little natural light because of the way it shone on the two locations, everywhere else in the slums where there's light generally has a dingy yellow sort of light. As for climate, temperate climates can have flowers growing all year round, it's why Africa is such a big producer of cut flowers. :moar:

With the exception of the character art of the Avalanche crew, that enviromental "concept art", looks like they just took a oil paint filter to an in-game enviroment screen-shot.

I'm just saying that's what it looks like. I'm not commited to thinking it has to be one way or the other.

Sure, it could mean SE are being lazy (which they often are for this kinda stuff), and just took a screenshot of some of their assets, and filtered it down (this kind of shoddy work isn't unusally in the industry, and is analogous to many other quick-fixes and patch-work they've done over the years)

Or, it could simply be, as it often is, an unfornate effect of a convergence of tools and styles in the industry at the moment, where many artists work purely digitally, almost all working through a trend, where some even go as far as using 3D assets, or superimposed images of real objects etc. to assist in the production of the image.

It's just a shame, because it lacks any distinct flavor of its own.

In either case, as a person who does a lot of digital art myself, non of that actually looks like it was painted, or drawn. They look like filtered 3D images.

There has been a tonne of fake posts as of late on reddit (mostly 4chan links) relating to the remake so I'm really stoked for actual proper screens that show a little of what we're to expect :)
