Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Series

The stills are definitely giving me a (high-quality) cosplay photo shoot vibe. The costumes look ok, but I feel like the sets kind of have that standard neon cyberpunk/grimy-but-not-really look to them. Obviously it's hard to judge from just some promo stills, though. Live-action remakes usually feel unnecessary to me, so I don't have high expectations for this, but I guess we'll see.

Adapting a TV show into another TV show feels slightly redundant - the expression of the original is just fine.

Yeah, this is what puzzles me about these sort of adaptions. Like at least book/comic/manga to film or film/anime to stage show bring something different to the table, but, like... it's already a TV show in this case, and it's not as if being animated was a limitation, so it just feels like a "remake well-regarded, popular thing to make money" kind of situation.

Love that art cover! Anyway, I just finished watching this anime a few months ago, and I feel bad for already thinking this is going to be crap. I wasn't too happy with the costume designs for the Jet and Faye. I think Faye having more fabric is absolutely okay, and the actress playing her looks amazing. But it just looks so cheap. ?

I'm hoping they'll prove me wrong, though, because the anime is a great series. Will see when they drop the actual trailer.

Yeah, that's definitely a live-action version of the Cowboy Bepop OP... tbh my main thought was just "I could just watch the original, though?" which I'm kind of predicting will be my takeaway from show as a whole. To be fair, the opening is so beloved/iconic that they pretty much had to faithfully recreate it.

The opening is pretty good, but somehow the show looks a bit cheap on the visual department, even though it's perfectly faithful to the original.

I agree. I feel like because it's faithful it ends up looking kind of cheap/goofy, since when designs are conceived for anime there's no concern with how well they'd work in live-action. I think stuff like stage-play adaptations can get away with stuff being kind of goofy-looking because plays aren't trying to be "real" in the same way live-action shows/movies are.

I hope they include Ed.
It's kind of strange how they're treating Ed like some big secret or something (yeah, she joins later in the show, but still). Surely they can't cut her entirely, but I do wonder why she's not in the promotional stuff... like, do they feel like the character is too anime for marketing?

I mean, we all see how certain sections of the internet reacted to Faye. I can't imagine the reaction to a character that is racially ambiguous and gender non-conforming, who is likely played by a teenager. I am hoping the production team has some sort of wellness safety plan for this actor. Especially if the person is on the younger side.

Is the proper response to cut her out of the credits? ? She’s part of the crew (even if she wasn’t in the movie).

This was not previously on list of reasons to be worried, but that just shows how insulated I am against this crap. I didn’t even know there was a backlash against Faye. Ugh.

I am really hoping they are looking to impress with the stage combat. The animated sequences remain crisp and delicious. Hoping to see the live action medium put to good use :)

If nothing else it will maybe mean I can finally get my dad interested in Cowboy Bebop. Everything about the anime is completely up his street... except he's still from the generation that can't really seperate "cartoons" from "kids stuff" and I can never get it to stick when I try to watch it with him, which I don't get much opportunity to do anyway since I don't live with him. Maybe he'll be able to take to it more when it's live action, and I'm more likely to convince him to watch it without me.

My ex was like that. It ended up being more of a problem than I thought it would be. :monster:
