^Okay, cool, that's good to know. It makes those coloured gems all the more unique in the first game (seeing as they were obtained like normal gems in the original).

Ooh, relics in the first game now? Neat!

Oh, no! Not Sunset Vista!
I think that was the worst level for me trying to get a gem in - not necessarily the hardest, but just in virtue of how long it was coupled with the difficulty. Best of luck :D

Speaking of the first game, I find it the most atmospheric. Some levels I'm particularly keen to see, such as Slippery Climb and Generator Room, which had a darker/tense atmosphere in comparison to most of the other levels.

Anyway, that's enough TLS'ing for me. Time to go play!

Slippery Climb is one of those that's like the original btw. In that since it has a coloured gem, you have to do the stage without dying.

Also worth noting is that boxes in bonuses (including "special" bonuses, N. Brio and Cortex etc) count towards a level's total now. But as I said it's not too bad because you can retry the bonus stages as many times as you like from where you picked up the last token for no penalty :)

I have 100%'d Crash 1 :monster:

Loved it, it's faithful but new at the same time. I think they could have taken it a step further and introduced some of the Crash 3 powers or something, but I understand why they didn't. The level geometry was built around Crash after all. Still, I finished up there playing the first level of Crash 2 and the difference is night and day. It's not quite PS1 Crash 1 levels of stiff, but the difference is definitely noticeable.

This is me earlier getting the platinum relic in Fumbling in the Dark (one of the secret levels from Crash 1). I now have the platinum trophy for Crash 1 (gold relic times or better in every level, as well as 100% completion), huzzah!

There's also a video of me on FB getting the Gold Relic on High Road, which was by far the worst relic to get. Special shout out to Native Fortress, Sunset Vista and The Lab though. Crash 1 is pure platforming torture at times.

I've played through most of Crash 2 today but my skill has deteriorated, think I've played too much lol.

Will other people poast plz

Was waiting till I got home from work (I'm not, but this is worth mobile-posting) - now you don't have to feel guilty if you post again :P

Okay, so I've had a taster of the first world in Crash 2 and 3, just 'cause I really wanted to! Love, love, love, love, love.

For now, focusing on Crash 1, which is possibly my favourite of the three, if not the second one.

I am just loving this game so much. I haven't gotten to play too many levels yet (just time constraints)---I'm still on the first world---but I've gotten up to Hog Wild, and so far have Platinum Relics in all of them. I plan on getting them for every level.

Holy shit, I'm gonna make it. Jumping on the final set of metal bouncy boxes, 5 seconds to go to make platinum relic - and I've been nailing these kind of bounces elsewhere. Okay, now just reaching the very last one...

Easily the worst face smash of my Crash's career so far.

Native Fortress...

Red - 1
Native Fortress - 0

(Well, perhaps Native Fortress - 100+
But the point is I finally got the relic. Now to continue enjoying the game ^_^)

I got a chance to play this today and boy, was it a chastening experience.

It plays so differently. The "pill-shaped" issue which Lulcielid linked to above is very real and very annoying. I kept sliding off platforms I know I would have made in the original game. That's not just time distorting my memories, either; I still play the original Crash trilogy every couple of years so I know exactly how they handle. Hitboxes seem bad as well; both my friend who owns the game and I ran into enemies and nitro crates we thought we were nowhere near. The analog movement feels very loose and imprecise; obviously Crash 1 has never been playable with analog before but in Crash 2 and 3 felt much more precise on the PS1 than they did in this remaster. For some levels I switched back to the D-pad because it was the only way I could be sure of the direction I was moving Crash or Coco. Then there was the input lag, which is probably more down to my friend's TV than anything, but is likely to be higher on any high definition set than it was back in the days of jumbo CRTs.

Edit: The input lag could also have been from the wireless controller. There's a reason I always play wired. I feel like I'm quite sensitive to it relative to other people I've played with.

All in all I found it to be a very frustrating experience. I'm good at Crash 2 – give me 20 lives and I could probably get through the whole game – but today I lost life after life on the most stupid of things because I couldn't mentally adjust to the way it handled. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, I like being able to play as Coco, and the improvements to the Crash 1 like being able to retry bonus rounds and save between levels probably make this version the one to play for that game, but I think I'll stick to emulating Crash 2 and 3.

I will add this: Lex, when I was watching you stream this on release day, I was wondering why you kept dying in the same spots over and over when they seemed quite simple. Now I know. If anything this makes your platinum runs even more impressive to me.

You will adjust to it Flint. It might help that I have my PS4 plugged into a PC monitor so there's zero (very little) input lag, but yeah it is more difficult to get used to the controls at first because of the pillbox thing and other little deviations.

I found myself switching between the DPad and stick in Crash 2 and 3, but stuck with the DPad in one. The level design was never built for the stick and it reflects that tbh.

Thanks for the complement though :monster:

Definitely had some moments of upset with this
Not being able to run across the ropes as smoothly in The High Road (Crash 1) when chasing the relic - painful!

I'm still tapping away at this game, little by little. Got all the Platinum Relics in Crash 1, and the gems, so that's all done for now. So, I moved onto Crash 3 next (I prefer 2, so I'm saving it for afterwards).

Going well so far. Nearly crying with relief after getting the Platinum in Ski Crazed :P

Also, I rediscovered the PS4's 'Share' button (I practically forgot about it for weeks/months, as I've never used it until yesterday). So, I managed to capture two videos of different platinum runs.

This might be the time to admit that for fun I used an exploit in Hot Coco whereby you can force the nitros guarding the exit to explode without dying, drive straight through the clock and into the exit. I think my time is something like 0:01:15 or some shit lol
