Nice to see a bit of confusion regarding the currency. In Damascus, the currency is called Damasks. The smaller denominations are called cents (because, out of a hundred, it does make more sense than pence - and you have no idea how much it pains me to say that).
The official language of Damascus is a particular dialect of Artolian that's no longer used in Artolia. There used to be a Damascan language, but it gradually fell out of use (too complicated to go into here - I'm going to make an amendment to the wikia article covering the facts and figures). There is however a Neo-Damascan language, an attempt to create a Damascan language from scratch. It never really took off, but Volsung operatives still use it occasionally.
