There are a few reasons but it's mostly his attitude. I don't think he's evil but he's a bit ignorant, and irritating (in an "it's fun to laugh at him" way).
There were complaints about sexism/ harrassment at the studio, and there have obviously been criticisms of the sexism in QD games (think random shower scenes where the player undresses people that serve literally no purpose).
His response to the toxic work environment thing was to say "I can't possibly be sexist, I worked with Ellen Paige one time".
He sees himself as an auteur, an artiste pioneer very vocally pushing himself as the only person ever to do these things (he lacks any sort of humility). He fails to see that the subject matter he's covered in every single game doesn't tread new ground
at all or subvert expectations ever. It's all very basic stuff that he unequivocally thinks are actually cream of the crop high drama.
Some of the dramatic moments are done well, and some of the stories are interesting. The games are not total trash by any means. But they're not what he proclaims them to be, and he's not humble. In particular he likes to respond to criticism of some of the elements with blind defiance rather than going "I can see why people feel that way about X" when there have been moments in the games and aspects of them that are overtly sexist.
There's also the weirdness with them hiring terrible French VA's to have fake American accents admittedly has resulted in some hilarity:
In line with the coverage of obvious topics I mentioned above, one thing that bugs me is that this is a big European developer who could finally actually set a game like this in Europe, but no fuck that. It's America America America America.
Farenheit: New York
Heavy Rain: Unnamed city in the USA
Beyond Two Souls: Unnamed city in the USA
Detroit: Obviously Detroit
He's just a pretty ignorant dude in general tbh.
