I used to think the Thanks was too similar to Rep, it got put in during one of my breaks from the site I think.

However, it depends on how you look at it. Thanks to me is saying "I agree with this post" or "this post made me lulz" without having to spam up the thread with those one liners.

Rep is much more fun, but much. much more work modwise. You got to work with egos for one.

Then you got to deal with maintaining the entire system, like checking people's rep to make sure they aren't abusing it, adjust numbers for "repflation," check if someone is being rude in reps, argue about rep slashing, argue about rep bans. And no one ever.ever agrees with your opinion so you'll never stop discussing it.

It's a great system to have fun with (minus the egofags) if you are willing to put in the effort. But the effort for most isn't worth it. The Thanks system works fine.

IMO the Thanks System avoids the pitfalls of following your profile on every post, so people don't really feel that it's staring them in the face all the time, (same with post count) and they don't mindlessly obsess about catching up, or bringing the other person down.

No post counts is nice because it doesn't matter if you have 2,000 posts, if you can't make a decent point, no one will listen to you if someone with 2 posts can make a better point than you.

For Thanks, as an example, Dacon dominates the number of thanked posts not just because he posts a ton, but because he's typically very relevent and his comments are well thought out, or he's being a sarcastic dick at the right moments. With Rep, you'd probably get swarms of people Neg-Repping over his comments that people disagree with, and Thanks avoids that.

Honestly, I prefer the Thanks system so much more, because it's not something that anyone ever bawws about, unlike Rep, which means that we don't have to mess with it, or worry about people getting ganged up and Neg-repped.


BUT ANYWAY:

The images & whatnot have been looking pretty sweet for this, nice job on the unofficial translations, nice to the what the official version's like though. Can someone frontpage this?

Its funny because I remember when Mako, Aaron, and Dacon were all hovering around the same number, and then Dacon just freakin took off, lol.

No, that happens in Dissidia during Squall's and Light's DOs -- I don't remember which one gets the cut scene and which one only gets the text based scene but it definitely happens. Unless you're talking about a different cutscene?

On Rep v Thanks- the Rep system can also fluctuate ludicrously. I've gone from several thousand negrep due to an obsessive negrep campaign to tens of thousands of posrep just because two people posrepped my post.

I think Whatever WoL has done, he has done it in the name Light, and inadvertently done a Very Bad Thing.

I don't see Cosmos allowing two of her wariors to fight each other in front of her, unless one of them is threatening her. And, again, I can't see neither WoL or Lightning wanting to kill Cosmos.

My two cents: Those bits of cutscenes were purposedly messed up so we racked our brains over them.

Look at those blue gloves/knuckles Tifa is wearing when in EX mode. Tifa's weapon designs in the original game weren't that memorable (aside from the ones with claws), so I'm not sure if those are supposed to reference the design of her final weapon 'Premium Heart'.
