- World Map
In Story Mode you advance through the story by moving your character around the world map.
On this new, yet just a little familiar, world map you'll find scattered treasure chests and roving foes.
Towns no longer exist in this world facing destruction, but the Moogles have opened up shop in some spots. Explore the world as you make your way through the story.
- Battle
For those who are not used to the action battles, we recommend the 'RPG Style'.
You can select this at the start of the game, and can switch between 'Action Style' and 'RPG Style' at any time in the Options menu.
The previous game also included the 'Command Battle' option where battles were fought by selecting commands, but this has been made even simpler and more intuitive, making it easier to play!
- 'RPG Style' Battles
By pressing buttons which correspond to specific commands, such as 'Circle - Attack' or 'X - Guard', the player character will perform the appropriate action.
There is no need to enter the commands under strictly precise timing.
You can play by watching the enemy's movements, and simply pressing 'Circle - Attack' when you think it's time to strike, or 'X - Guard' when you think an attack is coming.
Selecting 'Triangle - Movement' will allow you to keep a specific distance from your opponent.
Wait for your moment to attack as you keep an eye on the enemy.
Also, if there is an EX Core in play, you will go to collect the EX Core.
- Assist Attacks, EX Bursts
Even in 'RPG Style' you can use 'Assist Attacks', where you call an ally to fight alongside you, and the powerful 'EX Bursts'.
Once you master it you can unleash stunning combination attacks, or deal massive damage, so be sure to try it once you're familiar with the battle system.
- Develop Your Characters
In DDFF you can collect experience points and level up your characters.
You can obtain experience points by dealing damage to opponents, and as you level up your characters will further develop, such as gaining increased HP or learning new abilities.
Should you ever find yourself unable to defeat a tough opponent in Story Mode, you can even level up using one of the different modes.
- Customise You Characters
As your characters level up they will learn new abilities, or they will be able to equip more items, allowing you to strengthen them.
There are many elements that you can customise--abilities, items, accessories, summons, Assist characters--so you can customise the perfect character for your own unique style!
- Story Mode Difficulty Settings
You've levelled up your characters, and you've got out your best equipment, but this enemy is still just too strong!
For times like this, try lowering the Story Mode difficulty setting.
Lowering the difficulty will not alter the story, and won't 'lower' the items you receive during the story, so there is no need to worry!
- Finally...
Even if I'm not good at action games, I'll be fine! ... Does that feeling sound familiar now?
You can play it as an RPG, and still definitely make it all the way to the end!
But even after you've completed the Story Mode, there's lots more to keep you playing!
Take for example the 'Original Quests', where you can make your own story and share it with friends, so there are many ways for you to enjoy Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy!
