Do You Think We Will See Something This Year?

After FF16's release date announcement, Remake 2 is probably coming out only in 2024. Not even Kitase was sure if they could show us something this year! BUT this still is FF7's 25th anniversary, and FF's 35th anniversary. And I remember Nomura wanting to show us something last year, but being denied. So... They have to show us something, during this important year for the franchise, right? Right?

During the the last First SOLDIER stream they said they'd show us something before the end of the year. Take that as you will :monster:

Yeah, though I think they said FFVII news in general, I don’t think they specified it would be about the next Remake installment specifically. So it could easily just be an update about Ever Crisis and/or other extraneous new material/stuff.

During a First Soldier livestream a while back Kitase specifically mentioned that we might get some info on Remake 2 before the end of this year.
Most recently Nomura said there'd be news for an FFVII anniversary event this month.

So uh, probably.

If the Remake project does end up being three installments total, I would love to see the second part end at the Weapons waking up/Meteor being casted (which would thus require the Icicle Inn area to be included).

Honestly IF it's a 3 parts game there are two points where to stop:

- The Forgotten City

- The Northern Crater

And the Northern Crater would be perfect but maybe it would be too much to expect for a release, I don't know.

Edit: leaving on the Forgotten City would hit the player BADLY I think too.

There is one other place that I think the second part (out of three total) could stop at as well (and yes I am assuming the skeleton plot of the OG is still going to be followed in the Remake), and that would be with the Temple of the Ancients being the “final dungeon/chapter” of the second installment (since that was effectively gameplay-wise when Aerith leaves the party for good), and then the third installment opens with arriving at the Northern Continent, and Aerith’s death happening in the first 2 chapters or so.

But that is like the third most likely/best stopping point. To be clear, I do think those other potential stopping points are more likely/better fits in a three installment scenario.

Caveat: it’s an “unknown journey” ?

I think one of the most vital impacts of the Forgotten City is that it robs you of a main character in the middle of your adventure, and you are forced to continue on feeling their sudden absence.

A 4-5 year break between release titles is going to completely neuter that impact (again, if it happens ?). There will be no contrast.

But here I am talking as if Part 1 respected any of the story beats or took death seriously. So, yeah. Don’t mind me.

We all of to seriously consider that events won't play out in the Forgotten City like they once did.

And Vincent's sleeping in his coffin. :monster:

It ain't that unknown. It's literally just a tag line.

And a caveat to that caveat, the devs have also said this about the future plot-lines for the Remake.
And if I wasn't clear before, if someone is speculating about the Remake based on the structure of the OG, I think it should be safe to assume that person is doing so with the presumption that the general skeleton of the OG will be followed.

Remake Ultimania said:
—If we follow this Remake’s story, then the next installment might have major changes compared to the original, right?

Kitase: I’ve talked about this extensively with Nomura, but I’m sure fans of the original are expecting to revisit familiar locations and scenes, so we have strong feelings to not stray away from that. From here on out, we’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original. Even though it’s a Remake, please assume that FF7 will still be FF7 as usual.

Nojima: For me, I create scenarios that follow the general flow of the original story but with the assumption that the way things are presented or how events occur might be slightly different. Personally, I would like to include towns and areas that originally appeared first in Crisis Core FF7.

And Cloud and the others are on the Cargo Ship heading to Costa del Sol in ToTP.

I brought up Vincent because Nomura was specifically asked why he wasn't in Episode Intermission and he stated quite succinctly it wouldn't be possible because according to the OG, he was sleeping in his coffin and they were following the progression of the story.

Since folks were speculating Intermission would throw all that out the window.

I shouldn’t bite, but c’mon. The final boss of Part 1 was KILLING THE TIME GOD so that Zack can come back to life. If I had posted that in 2019 you would have called me beyond-the-pale pessimistic. I won’t believe a single thing they have to say about being faithful. If anything aligns going forward, I’ll consider it an accident.

That wasn't a "Time God" tho?

And I don't think it's any question that Zack being alive is within the confines of an alternate timeline. Cloud didn't lose the Buster Sword or zap back into a mako poisoned coma patient again. A big difference.

And you don't have to believe them, they literally wrote part of Part 2 already :monster:

Yeah, that is indeed a big addition (though I was always expecting there to be a flashy Remake pseudo-original final boss for the ending of the first installment, I can admit the Whisper stuff was even more than what I had initially expected), but big additive changes can still co-exist with the general outline of the OG still being followed in the Remake too.
Like it's one thing to feel that such additive changes are too much/not good, but to say that the existence of such additive changes automatically makes the devs flat-out liars is another thing entirely. Especially when the first installment did what the devs say they are planning to continue to do, which was that it followed the general OG plot outline, but how things occurred differed, along with other entirely new additions.

I have a question for everyone:

Do you think that ending of the last part of the entire FF7R saga will conclude with the same ending that we got in the OG? We defeat Sephiroth, Cloud Defeats him with Omnislash, Meteor coming down, Holy not working, Lifestream comes out, Flash to White, last shot of Aerith?

Don't see why it wouldn't.

I do think we'll get more than that as an ending though. Something else that wraps up everything new introduced in the Remake too.
Yeah similar how the Remake's opening animation has all those additional scenes before the actual OG opening is recreated pretty faithfully. Like maybe additional epilogue scenes and such. But I am very confident the climax of the Lifestream coming out to push back Meteor will be recreated, like the logo for the Remake is still the Meteor illustration.

I was thinking that au contraire, you have to live years with the thought of Aerith who just died, not knowing how the story will continue, if she will live, if you'll see her again (my bet is we will see her in the Lifestream, we already saw her dead version from the Lifestream in Remake but it went over people's heads xD). And people will hope to be able to revive her, etc. That's why we're seeing Zack alive, it's to make us think about this when we'll lose Aerith, trust me it will hit in a very different way - they can't redo the OG on that side, so they're going in another direction.

In terms of a new ending, I'm not sure what I would want. I really want to see all of these things being re-created but I also would like to see a new ending for Remake than the OG. Something that feels a bit more solid and less ambiguous, maybe a way of wrapping things up or explaining things in a way that makes us feel like it's finalized. Or maybe it goes past the point where everything fades to white into something we've never seen before and answers some questions we've had for 25 years. I think if it were exactly the same to a T then it would be a bit of a let down in a way.
