The Master. The fact that Capaldi's Doctor will take inspiration from the third Doctor also points to Dance's character being The Master.

I would love to to see Simm back to film his regeneration but other than that his Master just wouldn't fit well with Capaldi's Doctor.

Yeah, I agree. Simm was Tennant's Master (), Capaldi needs his own.

It would be awesome if it was someone completely new, though.

But at the very least, yeah, I do hope we at least get to see the Simm master regenerate/grow old.

And so this is how my 5-ish month Doctor Who marathon ends. I thank Abed, Troy, Ami and Carlie for introducing this amazing show to me. I guess I'm officially a Whovian now?

I kind of want Simm to return because he's expressed interest in returning, and, well, he did a great job. But you guys are probably right that Dance would be a much better foil for Capaldi than Simm would. I do hope they at least get him to come back for a regeneration scene, though.

edit: this is a compilation of things known about series 8 which seems quite comprehensive (spoilers, obviously). I don't think the start date is known for sure yet. According to Wikipedia it's in the "third quarter of 2014". That may actually be all we know for certain (it was originally planned for August, which I guess is the third quarter).

And yeah, as much as I loved Simm, Dance will be amazing against Capaldi. I think those two will be fucking amazing together because they're both incredibly talented.

Well, when I really stop and think about it, if Simm still wants to be The Master they should probably let him for a bit. With a show like Doctor Who that is designed to go on indefinitely it would be silly to waste talent like that when it wants to stick around. It would also be great for continuity, to have him return even if for just one episode with Capladi to give more of a link to the past. That's why I'm hoping if this Dance guy is a new Master we will at least get a regeneration scene. I hope I hope I hope.

It would also be kind of an interesting twist as well. When we saw The Master regenerate from Jacobi to Simm he said, "If The Doctor can be young and strong, then so can I," and he regenerates into a younger man to match Tennant. To see him regenerate from a younger man to an older one to match Capaldi would be kind of cool. It would almost be like he's regenerating to match The Doctor.

Or is that too much?

It goes along well with the tone of the Tennant Doctor and Simm Master's relationship. Don't tell me you guys wouldn't ship that.

I have never seen an episode, no. I don't have HBO and it isn't on Netflix.

Funnily enough I actually was just at a video rental store (yes, there are some still left) the other day and rented the first six episodes. I need to sit down and watch them since they are due on Saturday.

I figured you hadn't since you said that Dance guy. Once you watch him on Game of Thrones you're gonna be a billion times more excited about him being on Doctor Who with Capaldi.
