those two aren't exactly shizuo or izaya. well, they are, but they have different personalities and different names. if you come across fanart like this, shizuo is called tsugaru and izaya is called psyche (this fandom is weird). and tsugaru is supposed to be all calm, silent, strong, while psyche is supposed to be innocent, cute, and sort of immature. it's based off of either what songs the VAs sing, or the appearance of the soundtracks for drrr. here's a list:

My love for the series was rekindled when I recently got the 1st DVD, & since then i've been on a kind of drrr!! high This includes downloading all the character's cover songs so far (Kida & Anri's are my faves). Izaya's was...not really what I was expecting but I kinda get the feeling that that's the point, Hibiya is kind of trolling the fanbase soooo

I probably should check out the novels, especially seeing news has just come out about the 9th one? Ahh i'm so behind...

And if you haven't checked out the novels yet, I definitely recommend you do. I mean, it's interesting to see where Narita's going with these characters.

And yep, anni's updated with a teaser for drrrx9, which has me pretty pumped considering it'll delve into Izaya's past (about damn time). Maybe we learn more about that incident in middle school?

The first volume came out in the UK about a month ago, sub only though, but that's okay because my animu snobbery takes over for this series The dvd's coming out next month in the US right? I'm surprised by how quickly they're being released seeing how it usually takes like 2 years before an anime is licensed. The cover songs are great, Izaya's is the only one i'm a bit meh about, but if ya can find em give em a listen.

Yeah, i've only really read bits and pieces of the novels and whatnot (like y'know, bits about the twins and Vorona and stuff) but never more than that. I found a translation of the first one though & i'm reading it now & liking it a lot! Speaking of which, holy crap Izaya is even more psycho trollolol than I thought. Not that this is a bad thing though

& that blurb sounds interesting! Izaya's past has so much room for exploration or w.e, I just hope it doesn't turn into some kind of cliched thing? But then drrr is pretty good at subverting that kind of trope.

Yep, the DVD comes out on the 25th in America, dubbed and all. And while I don't think the dub will be all that great, I hope the DVD at least has a moderate success, because I recall watching one of the staff members of DRRR mentioning that the fans (not only in Japan) make a second season all the more possible, which I'm really hoping for. And I just recently stumbled across this character song:

I love how Izaya voices Kanra.

Do you know anni-fiesta? She has a bunch of translated stuff, and still updates regularly. If you have a lj, I recommend you follow her! And yes, Izaya is a crazy motherfucker, but that's why everyone likes him.

That's what I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be. I don't think Izaya's character was ever meant to be sympathized with, and if Narita takes Izaya's past towards that direction... I don't know, it'll change how I view his behavior completely. :/ Evil little bastard since birth, please?

Indeed she is! The majority of fandom people i've talked to hate her because she's a "threat" to Shizaya. Psh, the girl's awesome, why worry about ships?
Nah I don't think the dub will be too bad, i've seen a couple of the voice actor video things and they seem to be enthusiastic about it. I'm disappointed they never gave Celty an Irish accent though. I'm just so used to watching it with the original seiyuu's i'd find it weird to hear Adachi JYB playing Izaya or something. I'm hoping the DVD's will do well too, cause Season 2 is needed. Vorona & the twins in anime form? Yes plz! Speaking of which, isn't there another bonus episode coming out soon?

Yeah, I seem to remember him talking somewhere about how his parents were normal & just had a propensity for giving their children weird names & i've always assumed he just had a normalish childhood. Obvs some shit went down somewhere in his past but the "Tragic backstory!" route is just so...blergh. I love Izaya cause he's a crazy bastard, not because I feel sorry for him

Yeah, it's lame when characters get hate over "interfering" with pairings, especially crack pairings. Rabid yaoi fangirls suck. Not that it's just yaoi fangirls, of course. They're just usually louder about it these days. Probably because a lot of them are pretty young, though. Still, if I don't yell at them how will they ever learn?

I think the top most hated Drrr characters are Anri and Namie? And the sentiment most prevalent is that they get in the way of Mikado/Kida and Izaya/Shizuo. But really what gets in the way of those pairings ever becoming canon is probably that the characters just weren't written gay, you know?

I LOVE crack pairings, but... bleh. Give better reasons. You don't have to love them. I'm sure there are valid reasons to dislike something about them. Just make more sense. Why does your crack fun have to go hand-in-hand with all that negativity? T.T

I like Anri, too. But I get what you mean. Durarara has an overload of really dynamic characters. Anri just doesn't stand out as much as most of them.

As for Namie. I couldn't exactly say I like her. I find her interesting. I don't think she wants to exactly hump her brother, but she's definitely a twisted sort of broad.

What I know of Namie is limited to the anime, though.

Ahaha! *hi-five* I have no problem with yaoi, i'm just not really that into myself y'know? It annoys me how yaoi pairings are always considered "superior" because they're more popular or something. (I actually had an interesting conversation with a girl at uni the other week who found it fascinating that I don't ship much yaoi pairings. Like really, her mind was blown by it.)

I actually like Namie a lot, which was unexpected. (I actually cosplayed her for one day of the London Expo a couple months back. Yes I am a nerd ). I just think she's an interesting character, not to mention her and Izaya are a pretty lulzy duo/ship.
As for Anri i'm a total sucker for threesome friendships (Zack/Aerith/Cloud, Harry/Hermione/Ron, Cloud/Aerith/Tifa etc) so Kida/Anri/Mikado plays into that. Not to mention Anri is pretty boss herself & out of the 3 of them definitely has the best "power" imo.

I don't think I really hate anyone in drrr tbh, apart from y'know, douchebags like Horada.
