There's been enough retcons to MGS, if the original was remade it'd be full of the same stupid shit MGS is now.

A Metal Gear remake would be way more consistent with the current incarnation of the franchise than the NES version.
Although you do have a point about multiplatforming. It's just I feel the PS3 has the space and scope necessary to give the game justice in terms of length and HD graphics.
