And if the third-party devs are more interested in their products looking good than the various technical and gameplay innovations the Wii U can offer, then they also have their priorities misplaced.

Technical specs aren't just about graphics though. a more powerful console can improve gameplay in various ways (better AI, more objects and characters on screen etc.)

Compare Assassin's Creed on the HD consoles with AssCreed on the PSP.
On the HD consoles it has huge open towns with lots of NPCs that make the world feel alive. On PSP the towns are incredibly small and mostly devoid of citizens. The whole "blending in with the crowd/social stealth"-thing AC is going for doesn't really work if you don't have lots of townspeople to blend in with.

This is what AC would've been like on the Wii so it's no surprise we haven't seen it ported to that console.

It's not that third party developers are just concerned for pretty graphics, some of the games they imagine only work with powerful hardware. Powerful hardware isn't just for pretty graphics, y'know.

Bottom line: You need to be innovative *and* keep the technical side of your hardware up to date.

Agreed entirely, but I wasn't talking about hardware in general, I was speaking solely about graphics. I don't think though that it's fair to say a hypothetical AC on the Wii would be the same as a PSP version, console games and handheld games are fundamentally different in theory.

Well of course the Wii wouldn't be as bad the PSP. :monster:
But it would still be far behind the level of detail and the amount of people on screen in the HD games.

You know what's funny? Nintendo used to have square controllers, then went round when it was decided it was more ergonomic. A lot of thought have gone into the shape and sizes of controllers and placement of buttons, etc.

Now they're going with a large, flat, square controller here. Which for gameplay purposes might be cool, but not sure how long that would be comfortable for. Doesn't seem made for long-term gameplay (imagine holding that for an hour or two).

Lol nintendo controllers.

I remember when the Wii was first released how people were smashing HDTVs with the controller because the strap was too weak.

I still don't get how people achieved that. I mean yeah, my controllers have slipped off my table occasionally due to clumsy placing but even with the Wii waggling controls, it never slipped out of my hand. And I don't even use the fucking sling because it just annoys me.

Dammit WiiU's not even easy to say. They're determined to make you sound as silly as possible when saying the name of their console.

Would "Revolution" really have been so bad?

Just hope you don't drop your WiiU controllers and crack the screen. :awesomonster:

Not while I'm playing.

It's after playing games that I somehow manage to drop them. :wacky:

Would "Revolution" really have been so bad?

I would've called it Super Nintendo...EXTREEEEEEEME.
The name Super Nintendo does bring back memories of the most awesome games after all so why not reuse it? :awesome:

And as with Dreamcast, Crystal Chronicles, and when they talked about the PSP doing this...I wonder just how easy it is to look down at your controller while playing the game.

Isn't that "casual" gamers always have such a hard time with? They have to keep looking down to find the button they want? But I suppose the fact that its a touchscreen may mean there are parts of games that you need to look exclusively at your controller. I could see how it would make for some interesting puzzles maybe.

I was wondering about that too. The two DS screens would probably be the most comprable thing, and might be what prompted the relationship. The difference there is that they're both within viewing distance at all times, as they don't move independantly. Plus, their uses seem more limited outside of a handheld, as moving minimaps and things to another screen when the primary screen is small helps, but it just seems like an additional distraction to me.

I just keep thinking, but I can't think of any application where it doesn't function better as a standalone portable system, like it does with the PSV.

Well, maybe if you character picked up a map or something, and it simulated you holding something out of your line of sight, that could be cool, but that's hardly enough to do an entire system.
