yeap, it's coming

Can't wait to spend hours on end searching all over creation looking for ebony ingots, WITH MY FRIENDS

Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Come back tomorrow morning for a brief teaser trailer from Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks, and later on in the afternoon for the first screenshot of the game. Over the course of the month, be sure to visit our Elder Scrolls Online hub, which will feature new exclusive content multiple times each week. You'll meet the three player factions, see video interviews with the creative leads, and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to come out in 2013 for both PC and Macintosh.

If they come through on the claims it could be pretty cool. But...like I said before, what I loved about Oblivion, Fallout, Skyrim, etc. was being able to be completely absorbed in the world with every character I ran into talking about in-world things. To pay a monthly fee to be constantly jarred out of that by 'how i mine for fish?' messages doesn't really excite me.

But who know, they could certainly buck the trend and do an MMO interesting, here's hoping.

I highly doubt this will be the first-person extravaganza we've come to associate with the series. More likely than not it will be your classic 3rd person MMO with a Hotbar. What will be Elder Scrolls is the names of places on the map and the style of the game.

I would absolutely LOVE to be surprised by this though.

Seems like a bad idea to me. Elder Scrolls works because of its immersiveness, something which just doesn't work nearly as well in an MMO.

Only good thing about this IMO is it appears to be set in a timeframe that won't interfere with the main series.

The trait of a great MMO is that its capable to easily immerse you into its world.
Bethesda has had the ability to do that in almost all of there games, even the bad ones.

So I dont see how they're going to just forget to bring that aspect into there future title franchise.

.

Lol.

No, the trait ofa great mmo is more about community than any sort of immersion.

The only MMO I've tried that even came close was TOR, and thats only becauseit handled the matter of storytelling in the manner of a single player game rather than MMO style.

3 At best (in regards to actually being effective at pulling you into the world).
My point is, Bethesda is really great pulling you in and MMO's, especially the good ones, are a very capable medium for this quality.

Bethesda would be very silly not to do what they do best in a flagship game.

Ok, in regardas to immersion yeah, like 2 or 3. Thought we were debating overall quality.

Now don't get me wrong. Bethesda is good at what they do, and whatever MMO they produce is surely going to be above the average MMO by a fair bit. But MMOs in general just have certian limitations that greatly reduce their ability to immerse you in my experience.

Short of rewriting the entire MMO formula I don't think even Bethesda can make this game on the same level as something like Skyrim was.

Shoot I dont know, GW2 is definitely making waves with its beta and the big claims list for it definitely promises to change how we look at and approach MMO's.
If they approach it like that im sure they can pull off a really great game.
