I wasn't even aware of the competition being this week before I read this post. What is worse is that I missed all the performances of the first semifinal. This is really bad...

So guys, did I miss anything essential? Based on the recap videos it doesn't seem like it was that good.

I found it a mixed bag, but quite meh. I find that the first ones are a bit dull and the second ones are better. They'll be announcing who's through to the final pretty soon.

So.. what just happened?

Reading the live news steam on the BBC website:

• "Graham Notron noted the huge disparity between the juries' votes and the public's votes."

• "Incredibly, Poland leap from last place to sixth when the public's votes are taken into account."

• "Australia were miles ahead with the juries, but when the public votes were added, they were leapfrogged by Ukraine."

And on the guardian:

• "The United Kingdom did not get a single point in the popular vote. This new voting scheme is BRUTAL."

• "I’ve also just realised that Poland was the hipster Jesus guy. And he’s gained most of the public vote. I know nothing. Everything is broken."

So what's up with the voting system between the juries and the public? Why the massive difference? I expect someone to call shenanigans.

Also Russia is gonna be PISSED.

(Sorry if this post don't make much sense but I'm very tired.)

I dunno. Australia was a better song than Ukraine (though to be honest most of the music in eurovision leans toward dance/pop and isn't my thing) but the Ukraine song winning was going to piss off Russia (especially with it's content) and y'know pissing off Russia is a noble cause

But anyway, the UK entry was the least shit that has been in years and years. But we still didn't do very well. So either musical tastes differ wildly across the continent and/or they hate us I mean, that song was pretty mediocre but like, the UK does pretty well out of musical exports in general (even if I think a lot of that is utter shite) so I guess we shouldn't feel too bad

Oh and Poland/Vlad the Impaler. Yeah that song was shit I can't expliain why it did as well as it did.

There is a quote from the discussion on the Guardian:
"Russia should have learned from the UK - start wars and people don't like you very much for it."

I think the UK became hated in Europe over Iraq/Afghanistan, plus we've never really been interested in the EU. All our 'opt-outs' of EU policies aren't popular.

So anyone else looking forward to Russia's reaction to this?
How they try to spin it in the press I mean.
