waa i want to get in on this but ebay bastard hasnt been delivered yet
You know, tell me when you start playing, I want to replay the game
And maybe even stream the whole thing. I'll see. The only thing I know is, if there's a game I want to know every inch of, it's this game. I want to know every Bazaar item, every weapon, ever little trick. All of it.
Looking forward to getting back to that btw, been busy for the past few days. I've been watching your stream on and off too fangu, I get an email on my phone when you go live and I've caught a few glimpses - I really like that you're playing it without using a guide, XII is one of the harder games to do that with.
Oh, awesome <3 I haven't had many viewers on the weekdays, I had more (and comments) this weekend.
I'm pretty sure it's rather boring to see me spending 3 times as much time as I could have in the dungeons trying to make sense of it, but I really enjoy doing it. I level (atm I'm way overleveled though
) and if I have time, it's kinda relaxing. The only problem is I lose my patience. Eventually I get scared I'm gonna fuck up and lose the last hour of gameplay, and I consult a map or a walkthrough. Especially when there's a "red door" and I fear there's a monstrous Esper behind the door that's gonna one-shot me.
The first time I lost my patience and checked was in the caverns right before entering Old Arcahdes. I was looking for a map and found a Japanese one that had arrows on it, and then I realized it's a maze/puzzle. But I wished I hadn't seen that, because you do get hints of when you're on the right track or not (with the waterfalls).
Just think of back in the days when there was no Internet, and I wasn't allowed to call the helplines. I (and my friends) had to figure out everything for myself/ourselves. We had to replay several hours because we were clueless. And in those days you didn't even get proper hints. In Shadowgate you're supposed to mix a silver arrow with an apple to get into the final boss. (An apple?) And for Maniac Mansion, to open a sealed envelope with an important coin (I don't think you even know the coin is in there, just "the envelope is sealed") you need to heat it in the Microwave with a glass of water.
Just imagine that, and we still were able to figure stuff out. There were stuff we never did though, like how to get through that door in the ceiling. It's then years later you check it online and realize what you should have done, you get kinda disappointed. The mystery is gone. Figuring it out for yourself really is 80% of the fun.
Last night I lost my patience when I was at the last part of the 2nd Ascent at the Pharos. When I touched the first Altar (in the 1st Ascent?) I thought it was a door opening puzzle, not a "pick 1" puzzle. I didn't even realize that was why my minimap was gone. So on the 2nd I picked "Wealth" and my items were gone instead; that's when I realized you only had 1 gone at the same time, which is also mentioned on one of the pillars. But I thought maybe I would have to pick a new one and head back (the doors changing colors and all). What I would have done is gone back down with Items gone, and then figured out I'm getting nowhere. What then could have happened is I might have found out something else - like I still think there's a few hidden doors I haven't found, or if you only kill the Fire tongues, you get a red bridge instead of a green. But since I lost my patience I looked it up and saw you have to gain back your choice, and the elevator will activate.
I dunno *shrugs* I guess figuring out the stuff with the Black Orbs (that you need them, and how to get them - that you need to Float), how to activate the bridges, and finding the secret walls for myself is enough to say "I didn't use a guide" but I do regret not making myself
more frustrated
In a way, it's a different way of experiencing the game. You do at times rely a lot on the translations though. Some of the pillars made nada sense to me, some of them were quite easy to understand.
You know I read that title as 'Fangu Screams' and then I read the rest of the title about ranting. I'm guessing my mistake actually wasn't too far off the mark.
Haa
Yeah you might have a point there
Anyway today I'm gonna finish the 3rd Ascent - I might poke around down in the lower Ascents too, but if I do I'll probably do it from the Save/Transport crystal after finishing the entire Ridorana story.
Edit: Oh, re: your comment Hallelujah - I should put a time on the streaming page and here, and then commit to it.
