This has me as excited as I've wanted to be for this movie. Fingers crossed that it holds up.

Interesting how things like that can just change on the fly when you're finishing the VFX.

It's like first they make the movie, do the shooting etc, then they start doing research - show a trailer, poll responses, poll interest groups, then edit edit edit edit. Optimization and shit.

It's a pretty horrid practice TBF, :monster:. But, with movies costing upwards of hundreds of millions to produce, and things like a color edit to make it moar space~ and alien~ than generic volcano world being relatively cheap in that respect, I can understand. Editing / switching up scenes etc is a lot cheaper than having to redo the CGI, too.

I want HERBIE. The Fantastic Four I watched as a kid on late night retro channels was The New Fantastic Four - less Torch, more robot

For the life of me I still cannot the least bit hyped about this movie. There's absolutely nothing about it that stands out or stays in my brain for more than 5 minutes.

So with that final trailer they've managed to make Doom look even worse than before, add terrible dialogue, and show us that the CGI isn't finished(When the thing throws that tank it disappears when it touches what it hits...)

Yeah I'm gonna pass on this.

Yeah this trailer was the final nail in the coffin for me.
The last trailer I saw was sooooo close to getting the ball rolling for me as I had noted in an earlier post that the first 1:25 of it seemed really cool.

Over all this just feels lazy and boring. Seriously that dialogue come the fuck on.

"We cant change the past but we can change the future!"
Srsly.

"He's stronger then any of us but not all of us together!"
pls.

"Say yes"

STAHP.

You know some crusty white executive is gonna be like "I told you nobody would like a black superhero."

So, honestly the first 2/3rds of the film aren't that bad at all. They have a lot of decent character development, and they come together fairly well.
--But then the third act hits, and it's fucking DREADFUL. Like… the dialogue gets choppy and one-linerish, the pacing is awkward, and it honestly feels like someone else just cut it together from single panels of a last-minute storyboard designed for a video game boss fight. The problem is that the rest of the film's developments depend on the build up coming together here that the piece as a whole crumbles because of how hard the crescendo piece falls flat.

If the comment from the director and the first 2/3rds are anything to go off of, something went totally sideways with how the last third of the film was handled. If I had to guess, I'd say it has to do with the film's use of Doom, and is why the Planet Zero stuff was digitally recoloured as green from the orange, etc.

I seriously want to see the film with the original final third that wasn't whatever the hell happened here.

According to the reports I've seen what's Trank initially recorded was all character development and no action and did not screen well. There were then extensive reshoots to add more action, and also apparently change Victor's last name to Von Doom from the originally filmed Domashev, and the film went from being boring with no climax to being disjointed with a rushed climax.

Yeah apparently this movie is ultra titty.

To be fair, I kind of saw it coming, and I was never excited for it, and I love superhero movies. The biggest casualty of this whole thing is the Fantastic Four franchise itself. None of the F4 movies have ever been very good, and even nonwithstanding that, there's not too many people who really like them as characters/conceptually either.

I was talking to a friend at work and I told him that the movie flopped, and he went "Yeah, but the Fantastic Four always kinda sucked anyway." I almost feel bad for the fictional team!

Their ongoing comic was even cancelled due to low sales. But to be honest, I never found them very interesting, either.

I had actually been hoping this movie would have been good, though... :sadpanda:
