So, honestly the first 2/3rds of the film aren't that bad at all. They have a lot of decent character development, and they come together fairly well.
--But then the third act hits, and it's fucking DREADFUL. Like… the dialogue gets choppy and one-linerish, the pacing is awkward, and it honestly feels like someone else just cut it together from single panels of a last-minute storyboard designed for a video game boss fight. The problem is that the rest of the film's developments depend on the build up coming together here that the piece as a whole crumbles because of how hard the crescendo piece falls flat.
If the comment from the director and the first 2/3rds are anything to go off of, something went totally sideways with how the last third of the film was handled. If I had to guess, I'd say it has to do with the film's use of Doom, and is why the Planet Zero stuff was digitally recoloured as green from the orange, etc.
I seriously want to see the film with the original final third that wasn't whatever the hell happened here.
