FF Couple Tournament Round 3: Cloud/Tifa vs Tseng/Elena

Which of these VII pairings is better? Imma go with Cloti, it's mah OTP(along with AerTi).

Actually, these two are really similar: in both, the women are devoted to stoic men who may possibly love another woman (ironically, the same dead woman) more. I gotta go for Tseng/Elena, simply because I can totally get on board with her love for him, whereas I never quite felt Cloud was completely worthy of Tifa.

I don't think Cloud possibly loved Aerith moar. He might have possibly loved Aerith, but to say he loved her moar is a bit of a stretch, especially when you consider all that Cloud went through for Tifa. And how is Cloud not worthy of Tifa? I think when you consider all he's gone through, especially for Tifa, it'd be a shame if he *didn't* get Tifa.

Is that a jab at Elena or Cloud? How is the pimpsmacking, Sector 7 genocide-masterminding stalker whose been spying on Aerith since he was 6 more worthy of anyone's love then Cloud

I went with Cloud/Tifa. But I was never quite sure how I felt about Tseng/Elena, the rookie and the leader trope I guess. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I like it as a crush.

Also I never really cared about Tseng in VII but he was awesome in Crisis Core.

Hmm. Above all else I want to avoid turning this into a branch of the LTD. That said, I really think Tifa went through way more for Cloud than Cloud did for her. In fact I can't think of anything that Cloud did or went through just for Tifa alone. He doesn't consider her feelings enough, IMO. He may not love Aerith more, but I think in ACC Tifa fears he does.

That said, Tseng gives practically no sign that he returns Elena's feelings in any way. At least we know for a fact that Cloud has feelings for Tifa. But anyway, I've voted now.

Well Tseng did agree on a date. So he has at least a romantic interest in Elenea.

And what do you mean you can't see what Cloud went through for Tifa? He followed her up Mt. Nibel, he tried to jojn SOLDIER in order to impress her and be strong enough to protect her, he promised to save her whenever she was in a bind, he went after Sephiroth for her(though she was only part of the motivation here. The rest of Nibelheim was also part of it, especially his mom, as well as Zack), it's implied she was his reason for fighting, he dressed up like a girl in order to save her from the Don, he went after Chaos in 012 so he wouldn't have to fight her, etc.

Tifa didn't go through quite as much for Cloud. She took him in when she found him at the train graveyard, she helped take care of him in Mideel, she helped him piece his memories back together, and she helped him stop angsting and do something in AC/C. While she did do some major stuff for Cloud, he did moar for her if you ask me.

EDIT: It's obvious Cloud and Tifa are devoted to each other. Yet another similarity between Cloud/Tifa and Cecil/Rosa.

Does Dissidia count as FFVII canon, or is it a canon of its own?

I guess I was thinking more of Cloud the adult and not Cloud the adolescent, since I see his feelings for her when they're both kids in Nibelheim as puppy-love-crush; she's the alpha girl in their community, and every boy wants the alpha girl. He doesn't just recover those old boyish feelings for her when he recovers himself, but discovers new, adult feelings for her, and loves her not just because she's hot and cool and sometimes throws him a kind word, but for the awesome person she has become.

One could argue that all the things he did "for Tifa" as a child, he really did for himself, to make her take an interest in him. I mean we could argue till the cows come home about the actual state of his feelings for her at the time of the Nibelheim incident, but as you said, he didn't go after Sephiroth just for her, but for everyone - including his mother and Zack. I don't agree that it's implied she is his reason for fighting, although I think they give each other strength: I think they are fighting side by side for the same reason, to avenge their loved ones and to make Aerith's death meaningful by doing their best to save the Planet.

But I do think their mutual love is firmly established, whereas there's no certain proof that Tseng loves Elena.

I voted Tseng/Elena because I find it more interesting.

Going for Cloti. They struck me as the true love story of FFVII (say what you will from the LTD thread, but this is my opinion) and they stem back from childhood. I've always found stories from that time particularly brilliant and lovable.

I actually get the feeling Elena wouldn't put up with any bullshit moping from anyone, even Tseng.

I personally didn't agree with Tifas softly softly approach with Cloud. I can see why she did it, but I can see the whole thing happening again when Cloud next gets his panties in a bunch.

One could argue that all the things he did "for Tifa" as a child, he really did for himself, to make her take an interest in him.

How exactly? He could have spoken up that Tifa went up the mountain of her own volition and endangered herself but he didn't rat her or her friends out, he didn't get any attention out of it beyond Tifa's dad and the other adults blaming him for her injuries.

Cloud/Tifa is definitely one of the more developed romances in the series. Gotta go with them.

This is a hard choice to make, especially since I like both, but I went with Cloud and Tifa on this one. I love the idea of Tseng and Elena, I really do, but Cloud and Tifa have been through a lot together and, in spite of everything, they manage to get through their problems, even though both are flawed and are far from perfect. In that sense, they feel very realistic to me, which is something that I find very fascinating.

Cloud/ Tifa ! No Contest ! But I actually like Tseng and Elena as a couple as well. It was so sweet Elena having a huge crush on Tseng !

They feel like a underated ship to be honest.

Who would have thought that a FFVII site would have such a strong FFVII bias? Personally, I'm not voting in any polls in which I don't know one or both of the couples. I did the same in the military might tournament and the character battle. I think it's unfair to compare known with unknown.

I like Tseng/Elena, and I think it's good fun, but I definitely feel that Cloud/Tifa has so much more to it.

I think Garnet/Zidane and Tidus/Yuna might have a chance of beating Cloti. I think Tidus/Yuna is more popular over all but this board (and a lot of more FF orientated discussion boards) favor Garnet/Zidane.

Then again I thought Vivi also had a chance of winning too so who knows.

It's beautiful to imagine what true relationships can attain and I know Cloud/Tifa is a shining example of one. I believe they deserve my vote. But sure enough there are other romances in the series that equally deserve my vote. We'll see!

Tseng/Elena haven't crossed my mind much for there wasn't enough story to compel nor induce my imagination, from my experience with the original FFVII.

I've always preferred Tseng/Aerith to Tseng/Elena, so I guess it's pretty obvious that I'll choose Cloti over this.

I've been expecting Cloti to win from the beginning. It makes sense, as this is a VII board, and Cloti is undeniably the most popular VII pairing, and possibly the most popular FF pairing in general.
