The bridge they were on was outside, dude.

But if it was outside, how could Cloud have fallen through the plate to Aerith's church? Unless Airbuster or whatever that mecha was called blew a hole right through the plate when it exploded - or unless Cloud fell at an angle [bouncing off broken girders, maybe?].

I have to spend some more time looking at this. Presumably he fell from the same spot Zack fell or he wouldn't have landed in the same place, and that spot was open to the outside, but it wasn't itself outside.

Im pretty sure that were the reactors are theres a gap between the plates, this is where the bridges cross and its open to the sky. I'd find some footage/screens but Im about to go out

EDIT: Ok this isnt exactly ideal but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0xG042Zx_E fast forwrad to 0.48 or so, it shows the bridge and then theres a shot of the reactor exploding from afar, so the reactors reach from the slums all the way up.

Which begs the question, how come you never see the bottom half of any of the reactors? or even any pipes?

I never thought of that before, and now it suddenly bugs me. How did Cloud and Zack fall into the same church from different areas of Sector 5?

I love the stairs conversation. On that note, though, can you actually imagine running up sixty flights of stairs. I think I'd actually just keel over and die of a heart attack.

One of the scenes that always stood out for me was when you're all regrouping on the Highwind and Vincent comes and makes some ridiculous pun about 'being a pretty cool guy' after someone (Cloud?) remarks on how he seemed emotionally 'cool'.

Like, for a badass ex-Turk he has some moments of absolute dork.

I never noticed that, but you may be right there. That'd be pretty cool if that's what they went for. They did keep Cid's goofy run, after all.

And, sorry for being late on this, but I love the stair climbing sequence. Everytime I play through VII I'm torn because the direct approach gets you a lot more experience, but climbing the stairs is both hilarious and makes more sense story-wise. Barret and Tifa always make me laugh the whole way up.

Remember the pub in the basement of Icicle Inn? Well, you can actually open the door to the toilet there! Never knew that before.
If you open it at an earlier point in the game a man will be sitting there saying "You're a real freakazoid aren't you?", but open it at a later point a women will be there. The woman will then jump up, and punch Cloud to the floor.

Hilarious.

They're Neutral Good at their best, man.

Except for the whole 'Paladin and Party act exactly alike,' and as Paladins cannot violate their code or alignment without losing Paladinhood, which Cecil never does, his actions must be L/G. And thus, the party, who acts in a similar manner- stealing, killing random monsters, going to strip clubs, reading pornos, etc. not only is L/G by association, but in line with the Paladin code.

You can do both. Go up the stairs and get the shiny elixir and amusing dialogue.
Then go down and get XP.

Ah, I see you're trying to reconcile an inconsistency between the original game and Crisis Core there. I may be able to help. Just follow my handy dandy simple "Guide to Fixing Shit from CC":

1) Ignore CC's existence entirely
2) Success!

Ah, I see you're trying to reconcile an inconsistency between the original game and Crisis Core there. I may be able to help. Just follow my handy dandy simple "Guide to Fixing Shit from CC":

1) Ignore CC's existence entirely
2) Success!

But that would leave a huge void in my thinking time that would have to be filled by thinking about my taxes, my Visa bill, what Christmas present I'm going to buy my sister, when I'm going to get my snow tires put on, etc. etc. Reconciling the irreconcilable is much more interesting.

The location Cloud fell from, and Zack's location, don't look the same.

Like Ryu said, the only possible explanation is that Cloud and/or Zack bounced on stuff on the way down, changing their trajectory. Which, still, feels like a weak explanation.

Even in FF7 the view of the slums from Cloud's fall doesn't look nearly as close to the edge as it should. As both the church, and the reactor are right on the edge. In fact, with the extended plates that they only sometimes seem to acknowledge, you shouldn't be anywhere near the church by falling from where either of them did (assuming the church is close enough to the edge to receive sunlight).

I think you're splitting hairs.

Actually, less weak than you might think, given the very non static nature of Midgar.

You could also explain it that the section that Zack fell from was later dismantled (it wasn't exactly a complete structure when he was there) and so they fell from the same point on the X axis, just with the point Zack dropped from no longer technically existing 5 years later.

I'd alwalys though this is what happened anyway as the chance of there being a clear path from either of their positions all the way down through the reactor, through the plate to Aerith's church is very slim.

That said, Aerith's church can't be right under the reactor in the first place as the reactors go all the way down to the slums; they're not on top of the plate. (Unless I'm missing something really obvious.) Somehow, Zack and most likely Cloud, were shifted sideways as they fell.
