FFVIIR Original Soundtrack

Anyone else really like Scarlett’s theme and how it’s used in-game?

The jazzy arrangement is classy, elegant, and beautiful, reflecting the splendor of Shinra HQ. Had I listened to the track without playing the game, I would’ve simply concluded it to be a beautiful sounding song albeit with pretentious lyrics.

However, when played inside of Shinra, it paradoxically becomes dark and unsettling in its beauty. A wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The song complemented with the environment highlights the mindset and reality of Shinra - Grandiose, rich, powerful, dominant, smug self-satisfaction, and apathy towards the people and planet they control and abuse. Like a master who laughs and feasts and dances at a party - meanwhile, the frail malnourished slaves starve in the basement.

It hit me when I was walking in Shinra HQ and went to the windows and gazed out into the darkness from the upper floors. You can see the plate below, but what really stands out in the darkness are the Mako reactors, with the bright green mako particles misting from their tops.

Then I heard the line from the song:

“Fireworks to light up your night sky”

Man, it gives me chills. Its like my gosh - Shinra execs see these reactors and celebrate them, like fireworks are used for celebrating. They are so pleased with everything despite all the damage, deaths, and suffering they cause. This is evil.

It produces similar feelings I had during the OG plate crash scene, when president shinra looks out during the crash while the opera music plays in the background.

I thought the song’s use set the tone of HQ brilliantly and really highlighted the atmosphere of Shinra HQ, both physically and ideologically.

Anyone doing a demake of the new tracks? I wonder if anyone has the skill to make them sound like they were from the OG track.....

I mean, besides... just... listening to the original soundtrack?

I think it's possible to get a hold of the FFVII sound font, someone made a version of Michael Jackson's Thriller using those samples.

edit: Ah you mean new compositions, not just demakes of remakes. Like Hollow Skies etc. I remember, back when AC came out, someone made a FF7 Soundfont version of The Promised Land (it sounded like that weird town music from the OG's end credits) but those were the heady, pre-Youtube days of Ebaums World and KaZaA.

I also made my own combined playlist. Here the 11 tracks from the regular OST that I didn't include because they're either duplicated or extended in the OST Plus release:

Bombing Mission
Let the Battles Begin! - A Merc's Job (added, see next post)
The Airbuster
Anxiety (removed, see next post)
Aerith's Theme - Home Again
Ghoul
Infinity's End
The Valkyrie
Jenova Quickening
Rufus Shinra
The Arsenal
Midgar Expressway

Bombing Mission received an extended version called Bombing Mission - Infiltration and Aerith's Theme - Home Again received an extended version called Aerith's House.

I think technically another track could be added to this: Specimen H0512 is the full version of Crab Warden. Both bosses use the same theme in-game but the OST removed a minute or so from the track, most notably the part with the FFVII main theme towards the end of the last phase. Specimen H0512 on the Plus album restores that part.

Yeah, but the outro is shortened instead, and we still don't get the true full version of that boss battle theme on any released soundtracks. But it's possible for us to edit the track and replace the outro. It's just feels lame that we have to do it ourselves.

So what exactly is the current status/rubric of the soundtrack?

There was the original 7-disc (when on CD) release, that I know doesn't have all the tracks. Then there's the sold out Special Edit version with an 8th disc that presumably had other tracks? And then there's the 4-disc OST Plus that has cutscene tracks? Why won't they just sell the *@&#ing soundtrack? (rhetorical question)

Because its Compilation: FFVII OST

After they remake the entire game, there will be 20 albums around lol.

There is also a FFVII Jazz Arrangement album to get some missing Disc 8 songs like the Tifa jukebox theme. And even with all three of these OSTs, there are still missing songs.:desuawesomonster:
