I understand that but to be fair I don't buy it. The game was already about 3-4 years late by the time they released that first awful version of XIV.

They're awfully slow. And to that we add the fact they had to essentially build two FFXIV games in a row. That slowed them even more. Sounds true enough (if sad) to me.

They just put it on a very low burner after someone decided they should make an FFXIII-2, then a Lightning Returns, and then that they should actually build FFXIV in-house instead of largely outsourcing it to China. Silly derps.

I'm seeing reports everywhere that this has been pushed to PS4 and Square are making a formal announcement about it some time this year. I'd post links, but literally all you have to do is type "Final Fantasy" into google news. It's everywhere.

It is only a rumour at this stage, but I hope it's a fake one.

The VGLeaks section on NeoGAF is infamous for getting things right though. After having read up on it, logic has won. I don't see them investing the capital to remake this game so far into its development for a console that isn't going to have anywhere near as big a userbase.

Although we do not actually know how far into development it is.

For all we know they might have been remaking it over and over in the first place.

I wish they would just call it FF15, but they won't because it will still carry XIII's themes, however they may be.

I'm cool if they go to PS4, because development-wise PS3 is nearing the end, and Versus has become too much of an investment to not use it for the next console.

Although Versus may be PS3's FF9/FF12, the last FF game to be made for a console of that generation. Which would make sense because the last game always shows off the specs of what the console can do.

But then again, we've already had 3 FF games on this platform already, 13, 13-2, and now Lightning Returns.

I don't know if it is because I'm sick but I don't even feel like making a joke about this anymore. Honestly after wasting 7 years of development I think moving the game to the PS4 is a good idea and turning into FF15 would be good too, association with FF13 is not gonna do the game any favors.

But then they'd have to rewrite a lot of the script. Versus is built around the XIII mythology.

Nothing they've shown thus looks very connected to 13 anyway.

They've said a few times it's in a completely different world but borrows from the mythos. I don't think it's suited to be a main series FF entry tbh, that's why they didn't make it one in the first place. They might well slap XV in the title but who knows?

I also don't think the move to PS4 would be a good idea. The console won't have nearly the userbase of the PS3 even next year. But again, who knows. It's possible Sony might be subsidising them in some way in order to help them sell more consoles.

Moving this thing to the PS4 is just gonna piss people off. There are people who made the buy of the PS3 over the 360 because Versus XIII was supposed to be exclusive to it.

Ah, but at the rate they're going, by the time it actually comes out, I'm sure the PS4 would be a household staple. Perhaps the PS5 would already be in the works

It MIGHT explain why we were told to wait a bit longer for info if they were waiting for the PS4's announcement. But I know that's giving SE some largely unwarranted credit.

And I dunno Lex, if it really does have a world map and a navigable airships like it was once purported to, it could be more "Final Fantasy" than anything since IX.

I just want to know what's going on. I don't even care if they finish it. I bet the story behind the scenes of the development is just as interesting as anything else they could come up with.

Real talk: Versus was the one I was interested in at all since the beginning. Feels very FFVIII, or in that vein.

I like my Final Fantasies in urban realistic cities.

Versus won't be using an RPG system, but rather a KH-like system.

While I think I'll enjoy it... not sure if that would be suited for a numbered entry.
