I am shocked to my very core. Didn't see this one coming at all. You're a fucking joke SE. They decided to finally to cut their losses? Really? Because there's a FFXIII-2 and rumors of a possible FFXIII-3 that beg to differ.

Square Enix, this source added, has also decided to let Final Fantasy Versus XIII die quietly on the vine and fade away, instead of officially announcing its cancellation. This would likely be due to the fact a public acknowledgement of a Versus' cancellation could impact things like Square Enix's stock prices.

I find this part to be extremely hilarious.

It looks like producer Shinji Hashimoto was out and about today. If you recall, he recently retired from Twitter in order to focus more on game development.

Appearing as a special guest at Ginza SWING, and covering all things Final Fantasy 25th anniversary, Hashimoto touched a bit on his own project – Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Though it hasn’t been long since recently debunked rumors of cancellation, Hashimoto included a few comments on how the game has evolved considerably by saying, “The skin has been pulled back a few layers. First and foremost it is important to bring out Versus. Versus is turning out to be incredibly amazing!”

The Examiner reports (via The Silent Chief) that there is a hint of a possibility that Square Enix might just reveal something about Versus XIII at their conference in January (specifically, a new character and in-game footage).
