Right before the battle with Hojo he says "What will Sephiroth think when he finds out that I'm his father?" So at least for most of his life Sephiroth didn't know. Now as for whether or not he found out after his fall in the Lifestream who knows. So I'm sticking with he doesn't have Hojo's last name.

I agree with Ryu that it's most likely he doesn't have one at all. They do call him General Sephiroth, although considering Professor Gast that might not mean anything.

I hate this trend. Pet peeve, I dunno. Makes me chauvinist I guess.

Nah. Not a fan of it myself either.

Or Hojo thinks that Sephiroth doesn't know.
This IS the man who thought to crossbreed two speciment from different genera by bog standard sex, after all.
And no. He will NEVER live that down.

This point and Force's about it making for a better first name remind me Faremis is a spanish first name.

Also, Garrus himself nearly had a hyphenated name. Fortunately, his mother, like mine, was merciful and so Calibrating is his middle name.

But really Sephiroth doesn't need a last name. He's a science experiment, not a real boy. Why would he have a real name?

Now I know your joking with this, but that sort of mindset is probably one of the factors that led to what he eventually becomes.

Where do they call him General Sephiroth? I was convinced the "general" thing was fanon--I did a ctrl+f search through a gamescript once without anything turning up.

But yeah, I think he probably doesn't have one.

...and I kind of like "Gast Faremis" in that order, mostly because "Aerith Gast" sounds ugly to me. Wouldn't be surprised if they just got things mixed up though. They've ignored him waaaaay too much.

ugh blugh blugh. You are asking me to remember things. How about Crisis Core? It might have been from NPCs or something. I could swear it was somewhere. Do they refer to him like that in any of the Ultimania?

As far as I recall Sephiroth is never referred to as a General in any game or book or anything. That's merely a fanon thing.

Crisis Core Complete Guide, I wanna say...
You'd be wrong :sadpanda:

The earliest reference I know of is the FFVII Ultimania Omega.

also OP: I've never heard of this book before either.

Also the fact the Lucrecia calls him Hojo would suggest it is his first name, but it should still be his last name, imo.
I don't think it's completely inconceivable that she would call him by his last name, and more so if she isn't talking to him. Or even to his face.

i'm totally not picking on you

I figured everyone in Shinra was referred to by their last names, seeing as how they are mostly, you know, actual last names. Reeve and Heidegger are not uncommon last names (which is why Tuesti blew my mind and boiled my blood).

I always figured in Heideggers case, wasn't he the guy in charge of Shinra's army, and his artwork shows him with medals on his chest and such? If he's a military man, he's going to go by his last name.

Its wierd because it makes no sense in my mind that the child would adopt the fathers surname if the father is not married to the mother. Its nothing to do with custom or tradition, it just seems wierd to me.

guess im a weirdo funk ass bastard child

Why would it be weird if my father wanted to name me after him? I don't get along with my father, but he's my parent just as much as my mother is. Why would that be weird regardless of whether they were married or not? Why do you have to be married to give someone a name?

For fucks sake! Is it really so wrong that I find something that is widely considered to be the norm wierd? Is it really so wrong I don't perssonaly get it? No? Then leave me alone over it. Seriously, its normal. I get that. I udnerstand. That doesn't mean it doesn't seem just a little wierd. Get over it.
