I can kill just fine. Make it into top 4. Made it 2nd place 3 times in a row.
But damn, it's so hard to be the last SOLDIER standing... Fuck, it's so chaotic.
I'm gonna start making a murderbird to help me survive. I'm thinking it's best to focus on Attack and HP, right? You want the chocobo to basically OHKO an enemy with a kick, so you want that attack stat high. At least that's what I've been seeing. Anyone know for sure if that works?

Bruh, Chocobos are legit for taking people down. Most damage goes to the bird, not you. Plus it's so easy to hop all over the place, making it difficult for them to get a bead on you at close range. Also, even at lower levels, those kicks fucking hurt. I highly recommend getting used to doing a jump-kick. It's easier to land (don't have to stop moving if you miss), and it keeps you a moving target throughout. One of my favorite ways to harass people.
But I wouldn't focus only on attack and HP. Stamina is really important, because you blow through that shit quick when you're Warking a bitch into the dirt. If you haven't, I'd highly recommend watching that video @Thenir posted, it really illustrates how best to level stats on these beasties.
Played a few rounds today and learned a few things.
Learned your own material will kill you. I tried to cast fire through a doorway and missed. Blew myself up. Also poisoned myself with bio.
Also learned that they show the next training zone on the map as a tinted zone which is nice if your trying to get in a good position to snipe.
Killed my first tonberry today. He got me with his first strike but I was able to recover with a few cures. The trick is to shoot him untill he dissapears and double jump(ninja) as soon as he does. Then repeat. It was way easier than I anticipated.
LOL this is cute. An interesting idea for a seasonal holiday event. I think it's cool they're doing this and mixing it up. I have yet to try it out given I've been busy with work and finals however, it looks promising.
Since seasonal events are a thing, I guess we can look forward to all the usual holiday things in this game.
Had some great games with @Leafonthebreeze and @Erotic Materia today. And it really is wild how much more hectic team matches are versus singles. Like, holy shit...
I'm also deadass useless unless I have a sword in my hand I'm like, overly specialized as Warrior, and can't really play anything else competently lol.... I need to fix that but not before I unlock the badass weapon and armor for it, kay? I need it.
Did some singles after everyone left to try to practice diving head first into chaos rather than avoid it like I usually do, since you know... Teams. Because chaos is everywhere in team play and you can't really take it slow and careful like singles.
Managed to get my second win.
One cool thing I managed to pick up was a Bomb Launcher after killing a Bomb! However, I didn't actually use it. All kills were either melee or my chocobo.
It's extremely hard aiming materia or guns in this game, even with controller support. Nevermind the awkwardness of the PS5 button mapping being all fucked up, it's still just difficult for me. I can only use 1 materia from the controller thanks to the buttons not allowing me to shift materia. That's a pain. The best materia for me I've noticed is Blizzard; it doesn't need aiming and it puts great pressure on someone so I can then begin slashing them to death. Really don't know how to effectively get good shots with guns or materia like Fire or Bio.
The final round was great because it actually took place indoors. I just went upstairs in this building near the Sector 5 slums, and waited. One after another someone just entered up the stairs and I just carefully and quickly staggered and killed them. The final player was another warrior and I let out a Blizzaga, and then just slashed at them while they slashed at me. Fortunately for me, they got staggered first and it was over.
One day I'll get 10 kills in a match and get that Reaper achievement. Really hope devs fix PS5 controller support so I'm not left playing with a damn handicap.
I cannot wait to see a gallery of all the collected goods. I'm sure it'll show up on the FF Wiki before too long (if it isn't already there!) Congrats on the win Mako... but with those glasses we can't see your eyes.
LOL well we can't all just instantly murderize everyone that comes in our path. I don't know why I haven't been able to hit the magic number yet, but one day I will
Definitely had lots of fun too! Hope to play with you all again soon!
Meanwhile, I decided to play a little more since I couldn't sleep and... I noticed something strange happen.
It was night in Midgar.
I have never played a game where it wasn't daytime. I always wondered why they had the clock read 11:00AM every time a match started because it never changed. It seemed so superfluous. No matter what time of day I played it was always daytime.
Except tonight. I fought and won a match at night.
Yeeeeeah, I was doing the warrior victory pose and it snapshotted the most awkward part of it here. But as you can see, it's night.
Only 4 kills this time but they were all toughies. What's always cool is when you find some super rare swag on a player you beat and take it for your own, like a Cat's Bell and an X-Potion
The final player and I just...danced around a huge ass rock near the Sector 5 slums, spamming Blizarra and gunfire as we dodged the ever creeping mako wall, until I eventually landed enough hits to stagger him. Then I chopped them with Braver. It was pretty frantic because we both didn't want to die, but we also wanted to kill each other
Kinda hilarious and ironic that fighting in Midgar at night is so rare given... This is fucking Midgar.
They're doing live streams similar to what they are doing with Opera Omnia, where all players get bonuses afterwards. I'm not sure if they outline the content for the month since I haven't watched it and can't find a roundup post anywhere:

SAME. All I need is a sword and blizzard materia (sometimes I switch to ninja, but warrior is just perfect).
Melee attacks are really succesful, I've noticed that most of the players try to use guns even at short distance and you can easily hit them while they take aim. I'm actually using guns only against monsters like bombs and drakes.
Materias are killing me. Like, literally, I've killed myself twice trying to cast fire. I find blind uselss since you can still see the position of the enemy thanks to the footprint mark and bio doesn't really harm the enemy unless their HP bar is already very low.
>That feeling when you think you've killed the final player in a match because you did the Braver finisher while they were staggered, but you missed your attack and then wander off wondering why the fuck the match is still going and then you see that final player still crawling away to safety and you just have to fucking end them super awkwardly.
WOW. That was a fucking weird match.
This is what is so fun about this game, it's so fucking random. Sometimes shit is just so damn stupid but hilariously fun.
I am no longer a n00b at this game! At least not as much as before, lol
The last few games have been crack as hell. For example, today I learned that you and your chocobo can easily be killed by a speeding motorcycle driving straight into you. Yeah, that actually happened. I mean, it makes sense when you think about it, but it was still surprising to see me and my bird just fucking die after being struck head on by a speeding motorcyclist. They just drove full throttle into me, and didn't suffer any damage. I busted out laughing.
Another game I had was especially wild. For one, I only killed 2 people; one random weirdo at the beginning who tried to just rush me with no weapon and just their sword and then the last mofo in the final round. And that final round was sick. The showdown was in the Sector 7 slums. They were a ranger with a high powered assault rifle.
This mofo was no joke. Every time I cast Blizzaga, they kept shooting it.
I had no idea if you shoot the Blizzaga ice crystal you basically cancel out the spell. So that fucking sucked. Thanks to this, I couldn't zone them and they had me pinned near this shipping container. We basically just circled around this large pile of debris and the shipping container, exchanging gun fire. And unfortunately, they were hitting me more than I was hitting them.
After being knocked down to like 14 HP, I hid inside the shipping container and healed myself with an X-Potion. The enemy Ranger had backed off to gain some distance and I noticed that I was inside a huge ass red circle.
They fucking cast Comet. I guess they got tired of the cat-and-mouse shit so they cast Comet on the whole fucking area to finish me off. But, because they moved away, they didn't see me take cover inside the open shipping container. They thought I was behind it. I hoped that the splash damage wouldn't wreck me and sure enough... none of the meteorites hit me! Once the spell was over, they used Assess, probably wondering why the fuck I wasn't dead yet. They slowly crept around to the opening of the shipping container, and I just fucking rushed them. Like a pissed off cat lashing out from a corner. They ended up staggered and I ended it. That was one of the most thrilling final round battles I've had.
This is my chocobo who led me to my 10th victory. What's hilarious is that this was the very first chocobo I got at launch, from the free chocobo egg giveway at the launch. It's stats were just perfectly aligned for me. She's basically a fucking sentinel bird. Max attack, HP, and stamina. She exists to take hits for me and kill as many candidates as possible. And with that HP, she takes a lickin' and keeps on kickin'
In my last game, 2 of my 4 kills came from me just one-shotting candidates who dared to start mess with me while I was minding my business, raiding treasure chests. She made it to the final round and softened the 3rd kill up before getting nuked by a Firaga, and then I immediately avenged her, lol
I'm gonna get as much use out of her before the nerf on Wednesday. Nothing's scarier than hearing chocobo footsteps come closer to you and the WARK as they attempt to smash you into the ground. It's great.
...Now I need to figure out how to win a game with these special handicap accessories. Doom kills you in 12 minutes and that's just too damn quick. Oh well, just gotta keep tryin'! Really have to give the developers of this game. They made a truly fun and enjoyable game. It's got some wrinkles to iron out in terms of glitches and crashes but... There's a really good game here that stands out on it's own. Never thought I'd have this much fun with a competitive battle royale but it's a thrill.
Ok nerds, I'm curious to see how everyone's stacking up... Also I'm a little tipsy, and feeling good, despite losing to some asshole I swear was able to spam the rush ability with no cooldown period.
Might actually make it to Rufus's outfit before it's all over. Never thought I would, but I guess it's because I make sure to remember why I started this.
