Well, part of it is whether or not they were at peace with their death. That's what resulted in fiends to begin with. So I wouldn't think a grandma dying in her sleep would result in a fiend, either, so I would generally agree with Mog here.

Was there anything particular about Summoners that allowed them to perform the ritual or could anything technically do it with training? I assume it has something to do with a Summoners connection with a fayth, which is impossible now, but pyreflies are obviously still around...

Some people are inherently more in tune with pyrefly manipulation. As such, these are people who could become summoners, but sendings are possible without fayth.

It's mentioned somewhere (an Ultimania, I think) that Guado in particular make for great summoners, as living close to the Farplane has given most of them the ability to manipulate pyreflies on a small scale (that's where the monsters come from in the Luca stadium and at the Al Bhed Home).

Indeed, we also see Guado guards directly summon fiends from pyreflies in some battles.

So, somehow I managed to get 5 chests in the chocobo race. I didn't even intend to go for it, but I tried after getting 3 and 4 and then got sucked into trying. I still was fairly sure I wouldn't make it though. But after several tries I actually got it, I'm not even sure what I did better the last time to be right in front of him instead of right behind.

I have to admit I've been having fun being a little bit completionist this time around. I've never had so many good items, Wakka's overdrives, a useful Rikku and Kimahri, etc. Still though, I doubt I'll have to patience to ever be truly completionist with this game. Some of the requirements for celestial weapons...to say nothing of the trophies for not only completing the sphere grid for every character, but filling EVERY empty node? Ugh.

Well, I finished the 0 second Chocobo race earlier today. Got a bunch of Celestial weapons powered up. Still haven't fought Sin yet. :monster:

Only now did I realize when Yuna talks to Anima, it's Hedy Burress talking to herself. :monster:

Honestly, this is actually super easy. Definitely moreso than dodging lightning bolts. It can be a little tedious, but it's not difficult at all. Give it a try!

I haven't played this game in like a week and a bit, I've still got so much grinding at the monster arena to do, as well as finish the actual story line and what not. Farming Fortune spheres is as Lex says "soul destroying" I figured I need a bout 300 just to max everyone on the grid :/

I'll get back to it eventually, maybe tomorrow as I am off. I don't know.

How is it easy, is there an efficient way of doing it? There are Triple AP abilities and whatnot I suppose. But in addition to finding every blank node I've passed along the way, getting every character to all of them sounds like a nightmare.

I won't lie, you'll certainly have to buy a lot of Clear Spheres (about 400), and you'll have to use one of the better ap farming methods (the Don Tonberry method can easily amass over 99 SL at once, although there is a cap); you'll also need an efficient method of farming Strength/Magic/etc Spheres (using a Distiller or one of the Distill abilities on Kottos and then overkilling him yields a guaranteed 40 [unless he drops 2, in which case it would have been Dark Matter...whoops]). But it's not too tough, really.

Although I'll also be honest, years ago, I printed up a few of my favorite faqs at Gamefaqs and kept them in a binder, to which I added all my personal notes on the game itself (which I recently found and have been going through). I'd be more than happy to link to any of them if you'd like (the Don Tonberry AP farming method in particular is exceptionally handy!).

Stuff like that is how I did a lot of my own independent research - like finding the most efficient method of consistently getting Yojimbo to perform Zanmato (I won't bore you guys with the details but I love behind the scenes mechanics like that and figuring out the best ways to use them - it's actually a lot of fun for me).

I'm rambling so I'll stop talking now, after I say that I like tedious stuff like that so I could be biased ;.;

I will need all of this eventually when I do the sphere board and shit. :monster:

Will be my first 100%ing an FF since FFVII.

When you have the strategy down farming all the spheres to fill out the sphere grid doesn't take long at all. The most time consuming thing is the fortune spheres, and you can dodge maxing luck and just take your chances/ use Yojimbo on the stronger dark aeons and penance. Force, if you're going for the trophy it might be better to avoid clear spheres and just fill in all the empty nodes you come across. That would be the quickest way to do it.

Honestly though even with the clear spheres it didn't feel like it was super time consuming to me.

It's really not. It's just the last part that's annoying (Fortune Spheres).

Ugh the hell with playing Mass Effect 2. As much as I love that game, all this talk is making me want to play some FFX.

Finished the story, finally. :P

Glad to see Eternal Calm was in real-time. I expected it to be a video, using the old graphics and being crappily upscaled.

I just got to Zanarkand. That Yuna Goodbye sphere gets me everytime. I'll never understand the people that say they can't get into this story.

I've just made it to the Calm Lands and I have been nostalgia'd by the OST, somehow.

I don't know, that particular moment is pretty powerful and maybe now that I have more life experience, I'm finding it more powerful. Just after Yuna says she'd consider stopping her pilgrimage only for then to go "I can't do it after all"... something worked well for me!

I'll dare say I'm enjoying this game mpre than I did back in the day, even. Maybe I just feel that way because of the "hype" of playing it now after such a long time but whatever... I mean, I am able to see how it's less perfect than I may have thought back in the day and yes, it has less dialogue than I recall it having (somehow I remember all the old FF games being really wordy... when they're not so much) but for some reason, almost all of it works great. :)

I still love this game just as much as I did when I would sneak playing it in my room when I was supposed to be sleeping on school nights.

I've started a new game and just finished Kilika. Grinding in Kilika Woods is less effective than I remember, but that's okay - I usually do a ton on the Highroad anyway.

Normal, but International version. I actually decided not to get the HD version for three reasons: nobody seems to like the changed music, I think the changed faces look weird, and most importantly, I don't like the change to the way the battle hud looks. :P

ForceStealer

After people playing the game, I think Tres is the only one that still doesn't like the new music. ...I'm not sure I've even been cognizant of the HUD differences, the faces are more of a preference thing though. (I mean, they all are, I just mean I definitely wouldn't worry about the first two.)

AvecAloes

I definitely agree with Omega about the HUD differences. I prefer the original styling. That said, I think the general beauty of everything being in HD more than makes up for that complaint of mine. I also find myself really enjoying the new music.

You know... at some point I just gave up on this game and used my PS2 Gameshark, because yeah. It IS that lame.

Speaking of FFX Music though, is the Yunalesca boss fight music better or worse than the original? I actually happened to like that music/fight.
