Final Fantasy XIII-2

This isn't too much of a surprise to me given what happened with Lightning in the Episode i novella. Knew it was coming. Maybe not this fast, but I didn't think it would be more than another year either.

Episode i left quite a cliffhanger, plus, given the current attention Lightning is getting with Dissidia Duodecim, it just seemed like the atmosphere was set for something like this.

It worries me a bit that they are maybe going to do something like FFX-2.

If they make a game as good as X-2, that would be quite an improvement, though. While the story to X-2 varied from inane to good at various points throughout, the overall game quality was superb.

The overall game quality to XIII was less than that of most any other big FF title, despite its amazing characterization and well-designed setting (which the player, very sadly, didn't get to explore enough of, nor learn enough about through the proper channels).

Yeah there were a few indications (though I haven't read Ep 1 yet) so the fact that there will be a XIII-2 doesn't surprise me. Also, didn't they say a while back that a XIII-2 was a consideration or something like that?

Knew it was coming. Maybe not this fast, but I didn't think it would be more than another year either.

This is what surprises me. I can't believe it hasn't take that long either. Though if they start talking about this before finishing either Versus or Agito, I'm gonna grrrr

Maybe they'll say something at the conference next week about XIII-2, but I doubt it.

YES! I hope so much that there will be more places to explore, and also some more side quests. Now that they are on Pulse (assuming a sequel and not a prequel), there should be a whole world to explore. I hope they do it right! The battle system was fun imo, so I hope they don't make too many changes there.

As a sidenote...typing XIII-2 is a pain in the ass.

Also there better be fucking explorable, non-combative towns this time.

Well depending on when this takes place. Because if it is immediately following the end of XIII, then I doubt there will be any towns. Remember, there is no one left on Pulse (that I'm aware of). If it's a little while later, maybe the Cocoon people have formed towns.

Knowing Square-Enix, they'll announce this game way too soon and make us wait 5 years again.

And with soon I'm talking about Tuesday. =p

I see no reason why they couldn't at the very least have some sprawling refugee camp. The point of towns is that it gives you a break from worrying about combat and gives you a chance to just run around at your leisure. They don't need a metropolis to accomplish that.

Pulse is fucking huge. There could always be someone somewhere. Also, the Cocoon population is surely gonna settle somewhere too.

I was refering to the fact that X-2 wasn't as well received as X. If they are going to make a sequel, and the first part was received with a "Meh" by many fans already... I really hope to be wrong, but we all know that second parts tend to be not as good as the first ones.

You only got to see a plain and some surrounding places, and in the novel it's hinted that there might be Pulsian survivors somewhere. But I think there might be a time travel, with the description of the place Lightning ended up in the end.

Actually I hope there are. That would make a fantastic plot line. There are so many angles to go from.

There was supposed to be a trilogy XIII right? Or am I getting my games confused?

It was a set of three games unrelated to one another. This game would be a fourth installment of the Fabula Nova Crystalis.

Aye. This would be an addition to the already existing trilogy of FFXIII, FFXIII-Versus & FFXIII-Agito.

Wouldn't this actually be the fifth game? What about that FF Haeresis XIII game that we know nothing about?

^Oh yeah, forgot about that. Though technically it hasn't been announced so I guess we don't count it :P

What I would like for XIII-2 also is for them to fix the mini map. It needs to be stationary. I never knew which direction I was going in, or which way was north. I hated it.

Oh, awesome! That's pretty cool, actually. Glad to see Square learning from its mistakes like Wada said they would, and trying new things outside of spin offs and sequels of every main installment!

....Oh.... wait....

Why make KH3 when you can release a fucking cell phone game for the DS and make a shit ton of profit with the saved labor and game design?

....Or give every inane secondary character their own bullshit story by making them an expy of the main character? Sora doesn't have enough fucking clones. He could probably use another female incarnation.

It's too hard, man. You know how long it'd take to make a town for the PS3?!

KH3 has better lesbian potential with mini and daisy imo. And we dont need towns we can just run in circles in thr gummi ships :(

Word of God stated it doesn't exist...

Also, for some reason I thought of XIII-2 as a PS3 title. Of course it's so gonna be on PSP.

While we're talking about FFXIII, here's some comedy gold that Game Informer published in its newest issue, which I got in the mail today. Selected as one of GI's top 50 games of 2010, they had this to say:

Game Informer said:
Final Fantasy XIII
Say what you will about the nonsensical story, Final Fantasy XIII looks great and arguably features the best combat system of any RPG to date. Square Enix cut out much of the fluff found in traditional JRPGS, leaving players more time to sink their teeth into the game's class-swapping Paradigm system that ably balances strategy with fast-paced action.

"Square Enix cut out much of the fluff." LOL

Let's hope SE isn't reading GI's opinion of the game while working on FFXIII-2.

FFXIII only had a nonsensical story if your IQ was somewhere in between full-on retard and a deep sea invertebrate. There were more than enough issues with pacing, dialogue and exposition within the story, yes (and that doesn't even start on some of the more serious faults in the game). But the core story made pretty good sense wasn't exactly challenging to follow, especially for a Final Fantasy game ._.

Ignorance in an attempt to pander to the 'popular' or 'trendy' opinion is not surprisingly completely what I expect from the majority of video game journalism though. So good on you GI.

What number was it, Tres? Because...Top 50? I know I liked the game and everything but I'm not sure I could NAME 50 games that came out this year, much less exclude it from such a list.
