Why do you think this follow up is a not a pointless act to cover for a poorly executed game?
Because while FFXIII was indeed poorly executed, at least story-wise, it had a
lot of potential. XIII-2 looks like it might actually take that potential and make something constructive of it.
And I quite enjoyed XIII, even though it was a bit of a mess, mainly thanks to the characters and the combat system. From the demo vids, it's pretty clear they're improving on at least some of the shit that was broken (lack of NPCs/towns), while keeping the stuff that worked (combat system). Can't speak for the characters yet - ngl, my enjoyment of this game will hinge quite a bit on whether it delivers to me lesbians, Lightning, and Sazh. Now that Hope has appeared in the latest trailer that's a good indication that everyone else will be making at the very least a cameo.
