...they...really weren't though. Very well characterized? Sure. Very well written? No. Also, protip; even if the characters were well written, leaving the rest of the non main characters to rot negates the effort entirely. Did anyone seriously think Bartanthalus was a well written character? Seriously?!
Sahz is the exception, though. Very good character.
The day when batshit fangirls make games will truly be a dark one.
I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there (SURPRISE), I feel like they were all written well and their development was realistic. I liked a few of the non main characters, but they just weren't the focus of the story. I didn't feel like I was really missing out on anything by not knowing them in depth.
Anyway, I like how this thread went from "Reviews and Opinions" to a debate because I don't automatically agree with all of the complaints.
Yeah I can't really argue with someone who thought Bartanthalus was well written. I submit.
And I already said that FFXIII has it's issues and it's not perfect, but that it did have places where it shined. Sorry that I'm not jumping all over the hate bandwagon and that I actually had fun with it, I know it's what all the cool kids are doing. You can like something, but that doesn't make it well crafted.
I love the Chronicles or Riddick, that doesn't make it a superb film. In fact it's badly written, has some awful action scenes, and some nonsensical physics. But it's still good entertainment.
The writing in FFXIII was actually pretty good in some instances. It just seemed they churned out a couple of golden scenes ("You think everything is sugar and rainbows") but the rest was just sorta... lazy, filler.
The climax/denouement was terrible too.
but I still like the main characters (minus maybe Snow), despite the all-around shoddy script.
I know it's what all the cool kids are doing.
The Bouncer. The sales for FFXIII are equivalent to the fucking Bouncer over here. Which was a game released 2001.
Where are you getting $5 from? From what I heard, they tried to overprice FFXIII when it first came out and are now dropping the price as a result, but only to about $44 which is far more reasonable that the near $100 they were asking for before.
What’s more, this is a limited, first come, first served sale, available to only ten customers (one copy, per shopper).
Okay, so what you linked me to was a deal on the game at one retailer and not the average retail price of the game.
At second hand retailer shops.Yeah, good job ignoring the fact its widely being bought for less the 300 yen, at most game places, showing the games value is laughably low.
Thanks because I'm fluent in Japanese.
Yes, because they are trying to make up for the fact that they tried to overprice it in the beginning. However you're trying to make it seem like it's selling for dirt cheap on average when that's not really the case. The price has dropped, yes, but it's still in the range of $30-50, it seems. The average retail price for the game has plummeted.

I cbaThat's what google translate is for. Or just look at the numbers and Yen signs. It's not hard to understand.
You might think that they are dumping copies because the game wasn’t selling well, but that isn’t the case; the game sold over 1.5 million copies in Japan during its first week.
Most likely, low buy-back prices means that many players, who have probably already finished the title, are selling back the game.
1, 2, 3Retailer Sofmap in Tokyo's Akihabara has stacks and stacks of Final Fantasy XIII. Yours for ¥3,980 ($44), but this is a limited time sale promotion. To point to this as a sign that FFXIII was some sort of failure in Japan is a mistake. It's not that at all. However, it does show that retailers might have ordered too many copies of the game and are trying to unload copies.
The game isn't all that long, some people do trade the game in after they finish to save up for whatever else is coming out. I love FFXIII, but I agree it doesn't have great replay value, so after you finish it there is no point in keeping it.
However, again, that doesn't mean the sole reason for the cheap buyback is that everyone hates it. The game got good reviews, sold well here and overseas, and now people are focusing on the new titles coming out.
